iControlAV is the first app. of its kind from Pioneer Home Electronics that allows you to literally control your new Pioneer AV Receiver and BD Player with your iPhone or iPod Touch! Friends and family will be truly amazed as you take full control of your home theater sound in a whole new way! 4 screen modes allow you complete control of your Pioneer receivers sound tuning and switching capabilities.
“Control” mode provides the basic functions of the AV Receiver such as Power on/off, volume up and down, input select, and surround sound modes .Basic functions such as Play, Stop, Forward, and Reverse are supported for the BD Player.
Other functions include Pioneer's “Precision” mode for sound enhancement screens that also includes demo video clips to explain the benefits of these unique sound features. “Balance” and “Emphasis” modes are virtual motion adaptive functions that allow you to change the "sweet-spot" of your home theater, independently adjust the volume of your center speaker or subwoofer just by tilting your iPhone or iPod Touch!
*** Note: Regarding operation of this App by iOS7 ***
The features "BALANCE" and "EMPHASIS" don't work properly when using on iOS7.
The cause of the problem is under investigation.
All other basic features will work as normal.

Great App - but beware, it only works with the latest Pioneer kit
Whilst I struggle to understand why we can't just use the remote, this is a good gadget particularly if you carry your iPhone with you all the time as I do. But beware, just because you have a LAN port on your AV amp or BD player does not mean that this will work. If your equipment specification does not specifically mention iControlAV you will be out of luck, mine had a peel off sticker on the front of the unit with the iControlAV logo. I assume some of the reviews complaining that the app does not work are down to this issue - i have the same problem with my slightly older BD player.
Somehow pioneer have managed to botch a very simple and great idea. I purchased the vsx 920 k, which works fine, however, there is no iPad compatible version, and no new features. Instead pioneer made icontrolav2, HOWEVER this new all singing all dancing app will only work with their latest greatest most expensive equipment. From this I gather that once you've purchased a pioneer product, you cease to exist, if you've got the cash to keep buying the latest model every year, then it looks like you're in luck. Pioneers Icontrolav3 will be released next year, will include singing bears and will pour your beer... But it will be incompatible with every piece of pioneer equipment you currently own.
Very disappointing - shame on Pioneer
Why doesn't this support the VSX-1020? To add insult to injury it correctly identifies I have a 1020 but then just redirects me to iControlAV - the iPhone app! I understand if there are hardware changes which would limit the functionality but the 1020 is less than a year old and clearly some of the functionality could be supported (even if it's just replicating what's supported by the iControlAV) - plus I'm sure there are aome other things that could be implemented too. Come on Pioneer - don't penalise your supporters and early adopters - every company gives their products a lifespan of more than 1 year with firmware and software updates nowadays.
