Ratings and Reviews
Seems OK but the percentage makes no sense
After several months of investing the percentage they show on the app makes no sense. The capital gain as compared to my initial investment is only 3.9%, whereas the "performance" percentage says it's 4.99%.
Currently the graph from 3-4 months is completely flat, which makes no sense either.
The app provides you with very little control aside from adding more money or transferring across, or setting up a new portfolio. As I can't imagine people would be doing that every time they log in, I don't understand why they're the main calls to action on the screen.
You can't change your risk profile at all, which I would have expected be one of the few things you should have control over.
My risk profile is "low" whereas when I first did the risk profile during setup I definitely came out as medium to high which means I'm completely confused how my answers then translated to investments on my behalf now.
Overall it seems OK for now since the value appears to be going up, but many things are not as expected.
Could Be Better
The idea behind moneyfarm is a good one; simple straight forward accessible investing. The execution of it however is not so clear. Once signed up, communication is regular but overtime that dwindled to the odd email here and there about accounts, statements sent months past their due date etc. ... The weekly summary emails weren’t of much interest or relevance to me, there was one occasion when I was sent a message meant for someone else and as others have mentioned, withdrawing money is a bit of a hassle. Perhaps if they charged everyone a nominal fee, they can focus on improving the delivery/service side of the product.
I’ve had an ISA with these guys for about a year and for the most part the performance has been negative. They don’t seem to be very responsive to the market and if you question any of this they spit out drivel about how you should look at the long term etc. That’s great but does nothing to address the immediate concerns and that is the major red flag for me since I’m left with the impression they’re just hoping for the best. As such I won’t be investing any more money and soon as my gains have recovered I’ll move my money elsewhere.
