Description

The National Gallery in London houses one of the greatest collections of Western European painting in the world. These pictures belong to everyone and are presented here for you to enjoy and keep with you at all times.

Explore the brushstrokes and hear the stories behind masterpieces by Leonardo, Renoir, Botticelli, Rembrandt and Van Gogh, along with lesser known paintings and hidden gems. Listen to commentary and insight from famous artists, writers and experts who will take you on an unforgettable journey into art.

This is your collection. Please touch the art.

The application contains more than 250 works, and includes video, audio, zoomable high-resolution images, theme groupings and image galleries.

Love Art is a Pentimento application created by Antenna Audio, the world’s leading producer of mobile interpretation for museums and cultural attractions.

The art term Pentimento refers to layers of alteration that reveal changes in composition and thinking from the artist. It is a lasting trace, often hidden to the eye, of the process and the maker.

Style but no content...

For anyone wanting to learn anything at all about the works of art at the National Gallery...bad luck. This app has the information density of a cheese soufflé. I get the impression that this app is more a marketing strategy than a genuine attempt at opening up the gallery's collection to the public and teaching people. This point is perfectly illustrated in the introductory video of the app...a sensual female voice says 'profound' but meaningless words duch as 'light' or 'betrayal' to a collage of paintings and background music. It is an advert, not an introduction to a gallery! I want my money back!

Great first Effort - but could be improved

A brilliant first effort at this application. Some glitches - quality of audio varies from item to item. In some cases audio disappears altogether. Also the visuals are a bit static - it would benefit from a bit of zooming into particular parts of the painting (see the Leonardo Virgin on the Rocks section for example). But overall worth at least 4 stars. I'm sure future versions will be even better.

Good but...

I got this app when it was free, would haven given it 5 stars but would feel hard pushed to give it more than 3 now I see you have to pay for it.
If you love art then maybe you don't mind, I just wanted to check out some details on national gallary, may I suggest if you want to do that now check the website
