The only painting app I use
I moaned about the way layers were merged down by pinching them together, which for me never worked. But after reading my review Procreate contacted me to tell me that tapping a layer opened up options including merge down. The problem of most things now without instructions one has to find out everything oneself, so I appreciated they made the effort to tell me. Top marks for service!!
So now I find Procreate the best painting app, & I have tried many. I much prefer it to Brushes, the one Hockney used.
Good, but limited
For the price, this is a good value painting app. However, the features are oddly limited. Lining up layers is difficult to do, with no snap-to function. There are also no blend, smudge or heal type brushes, so painting out an unwanted line becomes rather tedious. Incredibly, there is no colour picker to sketch from an image being worked upon. The app is really aimed at general artwork, using a pencil, and cannot yet come close to a desktop app such as photoshop.
Basic features cost extra
Basic features like perspective guide cost an extra £1.99 under the "early access" scheme.
Features like perspective guide are available from Adobe Sketch, which is a free app.
