Customer Reviews

3.0 ruined the app... What a shame!

(Again a fake update to reset ratings! :-D DON'T TRUST any of the 4-5 star reviews here, they've all been planted and upvoted by Fiftythree with PR lines to counterbalance the negative ones of real angry legacy users! Pathetic!) This used to be an amazing drawing and creativity app... The developers for some reason thought they could not monetize it enough (failed acquisition from Apple?), accepted a seed of funding and faced the growing competition by challenging EVERYONE at once. This app tries (and fails) to be Instagram, Apple Notes, One Note, PowerPoint, Keynote, Snapseed... And forgets that it was UNIQUE, it was Paper, the best at what it was doing, clutter free, intuitive support for immediate creativity... In the future we will see more and more integration with Microsoft (where the founders used to work) and a subscription model for space/storage/sync... Which in a way is already angering legacy users who bought the app and the tools to use it. The outrage at the downgrade in UI usability has been UNIVERSAL, and from a consistent 5-star rating we now see just 1-star complaints. Fiftythree has to realise they made a mistake and go back to the fundamentals of this app... Create a second one for notes and presentations if they believe it will be more popular, but piggybacking on the loyalty of their initial user base hoping to be an instant hit... Simply did not work... Sorry, don't say we hadn't warned you. :-/

Not bad, but many things need to be fixed.

When I started using paper, I thought it was great. In some ways, it still is. However, the UI Is getting ever clunkier, and I do not like the look of the direction this app is heading.
A word of advice to fifty three first - pay CLOSE attention to your negative reviews, and do EVERYTHING in your power to make amends. Customer satisfaction is key. Do something that angers the customers, and you will find yourself hard pressed to get anywhere. Money included.
Next, a few problems I have encountered. This app really needs to have the ability to have multiple pictures in one page, as it is very difficult to do some of the work I do when you can't have more than one.
Next, it would be useful to be able to resize and reorient the area selected by the scissors tool - as drawing molecular structures can be very hard to do without reorienting things, and when the diagram is too large, not being able to resize it is a pain.
Furthermore, there should be a clipboard so you can transfer selected objects to a different page.
All in all, this app is very handy to have, but it needs significant improvements to redeem itself from this hole it has started digging.

Not wanting photoshop - but...

It's got to be really hard moving a product forward keeping everyone happy however as a user from the inception of Paper the only real thing that still frustrates the hell out of me is the lack of even basic layering. Even doing traditional design using pen and layout paper you can evolve ideas by overlays - using a sheet as a reference to improve lines, keep/improve proportions etc. Paper makes even more sense on the iPad Pro - layers would just complete the product for those who need to present a range of design concepts quickly and consistently.
Be great to get the two fingered undo back again too!
