Ratings and Reviews
Possibly breaches new EU Privacy Regulations
Signed up, posted a simple garden maintenance job. Had one tradesperson apply from a builders, rated 5 star but can’t see his profile or reviews. Emailed Rated People for advice. No response or acknowledgement. I then initiated chat with the tradesperson who wanted to do more than I asked for. I decided not to use them. Then they started calling as they get your number as soon as they respond. Thankfully they don’t (I think) get my address as I’m sure if they had, he would have been knocking or just started the job. I went to withdraw the ad, and I cannot see how to.
I also cannot see how I get all of my data deleted in accordance with new GDPR privacy rules as I don’t want Rated People to have any of my details including my phone number which they so eagerly give out, especially when I can’t withdraw a job. Anyone who now applies can get my number. Not Good Rated People. Not Good.
Doesn’t open after update
According to the App Store on my phone this app updated two days ago, since then as soon as you open it it crashes closed again.
Read another review about a tradesman used and I’m not sure I’d use this app now anyway.
The review had valid points, the tradesman should be made to list qualifications in order for you to check them. They should have some sort of background history you can check.
More importantly it should be made very clear that listing a job does not qualify as a call out otherwise what is the point of the app. You should call it Emergency Rated, then you know you’re in for being ripped off.
Nice idea but needs a lot of work and safety checks to be built in.
We appreciate the feedback and it'll be passed on. We're an introductory service for tradespeople and homeowners, with reviews written by homeowners. There is a stringent screening process all tradespeople must go through, which establishes their identity and financial stability. You can read our screening process in full at rated.co.uk/screening. Homeowners are also encouraged to do their own research and ask for certificates or qualifications from tradespeople in order for to help them make the right choice. If you have any questions, feel free to get in contact with us by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll get back to you. ^AL
Not as good as it could be
Used the app to list a job. Got a quick response, but the tradesman had no reviews and wouldn't quote over the phone. Didn't give his qualifications or rates in the listing.
OK, so the job was done that evening and after some haggling, dropped his out of hours rate, as I pointed out the job was not urgent and could have been done during normal hours. He insisted that listing qualified as a callout.
There doesn't seem to be any safeguard to ensure that the tradesmen are genuine as there doesn't appear to be a section to request specific trade qualifications.
App is also temperamental. Closes for no reason.
