Description

From Disney Mobile, in partnership with LucasArts and NimbleBit, the makers of Tiny Tower, comes an all-new mobile game about everyone’s favorite space station, STAR WARS™: TINY DEATH STAR™!

Amidst a civil war in a galaxy far, far away, the Emperor is building a Death Star level by level, and he needs your help. Intergalactic war is expensive, and space stations are, too. Do you have any idea how much it costs to build one the size of a moon?

Live life on the dark side, and join Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader on a mission to attract Galactic bitizens, run intergalactic businesses, and build an all-new Death Star! With that hard-earned money, fund the Empire’s evil schemes to defeat the Rebels and conquer the galaxy once and for all!

With the power of the Dark Side, you’ll be able to…
BUILD THE LARGEST DEATH STAR AROUND: Earn credits to expand your Death Star, and build over 80 types of Star Wars themed residential and commercial floors like Rebo’s Karaoke and Cloud City Spa!

HIRE STAR WARS GALACTIC BITIZENS: Attract over 30 unique species including Wookiees and Ewoks, and fulfill their dream jobs! Not everyone on the Death Star wants to be the Empire’s minion; some might just want to work at the local ice cream shop…

FUEL THE EMPIRE’S EVIL SCHEMES UNDERGROUND: Below the hustle and bustle of the businesses above, build secretive, underground imperial levels to craft special supplies that will aide your Imperial troops in the fight against the Rebels.

CAPTURE REBEL SPIES: As stealthy as your Death Star development may be, expect break-ins from Rebel spies such as Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and more! Capture them before they escape!

UNLOCK ENTERTAINING STORY MOMENTS: While running your Death Star, keep your eyes peeled for new scenes featuring many of your favorite characters like Han Solo, Chewie, Jabba the Hutt, and more.

Hurry and get on your way to building the largest, most destructive space station in the galaxy!

Cute and addictive

LucasArts have created a little gem of a game app in Tiny Death Star. The premise is to build and manage your very own Death Star in the form of addable levels in a vertical configuration. You have a choice of different types of levels to build in order to balance the management of your Death Star, all of which play on themes and locations from throughout the Star Wars universe, all the while unlocking special characters and cutely pixelated animated scenes that pay homage to events from the films. The cute graphics and elevator style versions of your favourite musical themes from the movies all add to the fun tone of the game, even if you are building a weapon for the dark side! The balance between play and reward is spot on. In order to unlock special features you are required to earn 'Imperial Bucks' and this is where LucasArts have got it absolutely right - never are you made to feel as though you are required to spend money in order to buy more bucks for unlocking specials, instead you are rewarded by playing the game in the correct manner and instead left to chose which unlockables you want. Other game app developers can learn from this. There are the occasional pop up ads for other games, but you never feel these impinge on the fun experience. Very cute, very addictive. Star Wars fans looking for a little bit of fun gameplay that is never intense, look no further.

Good game but the devs have been sneaky.....

So I have been playing this for over a month now and have a pretty good Tiny Death Star going. It's low maintenance and the little scenes are fun to unlock, but I have noticed a very naughty trick the devs pull to try to force you to buy currency....

.... The games currency is "Bux" which you can buy or earn through challenges which on the face of it seems decent until you decide to save the "Bux" to buy a specific level. At the start these cost between 60 and 100 "Bux". I currently have saved 77, but the levels have jumped up on price which means I have to continue to save (at which rate the levels would continue to increase in price) or play until I have all the levels with an abundance of useless "Bux". Naughty naughty. Apple should take note that this is bad practice by app devs.

I would have given this at least 4/5 stars but the trickery pulled leaves me wanting to shaft the devs as much as they are trying to shaft the players.

Decent Little Distraction

Nice little game that goes about it's business throughout your day.

If your the kind of person that sits there expecting full on gameplay, you'll have to spend real money on the game's currency to progress things at a canter.

Personally I hate the whole F2P thing and cannot understand why anyone would throw money away, unfortunately people are stupid enough to do so. In the end lovely little ideas like this get burdened with pixel penny pinching.

I would rather the devs release this as a paid title, if they did this would be a real gem.

It's use of the Star Wars license is brilliantly humorous and fun, but there is the ever present spectre of a paywall which eventually does present itself. To the games credit though, micro transactions aren't presented to you aggressively or begged for.

I would love to give this game 5 stars but the business model lets it down. Try it out for yourself there's a lot to like here.
