Flakey controls temper an otherwise good game
I like this game...I think. It's nice looking and the music is good, and it's difficult, really difficult. However, where this type of rhythm action game succeeds or fails is in the control. I need to know that if I make a mistake it's down to my poor timing. And unfortunately Bit. Trip. Run! Has controls that are just not precise enough for this. The use of gestures has meant that a large portion of the time the game does not pick up the control I want or mistakes it for a jump when I need to slide. There is alternative controls to use a section of the screen for each action instead, but these are almost (if not quite) as imprecise.
This is a disappointment considering the Bit. Trip series on PC has perfectly tight controls, and I can't help but feel that this hampers what could otherwise be one of the best games on the App Store.
Frame rate still jerky, Bug in game...
There is a Bug in the level Cloud Canter part way thru the game it is impossible to JUMP just shortly after starting the level, just found another one on the next level... Quality Control?
And so the level cannot be completed...?
Nevertheless Great game made better by the recent update giving players different control options, which work exceptionally well
However on my iPad Air the frame rate still suffers when having to replay a level several times which otherwise spoils a great game, if this is sorted it would be worthy of 6 stars...
Since the update
This game was frustrating as hell with swipe controls, what were they thinking!
But since the update and the choice of unintrusive button controls it's awesome, no more missed gold or school boy errors because of dodgy controls. It's as good as it gets with out a controller, good enough for me to get prefects on most levels!
