The Centre for Ecology and Hydrology and the Nature Locator team have joined forces to help map species of ladybird within the UK.
For hundreds of years people in Britain have been recording when and where they see plants, animals and other wildlife. The Biological Records Centre within the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology helps people to record many different species by working with national recording schemes.
The UK Ladybird Survey is one such scheme. Launched in 1968, it collates and analyses records of ladybird species found across the UK, and maps their distributions.
The information gathered is used by scientists to see how wildlife is changing due to factors such as climate change and the arrival of new species.
Scientists could not do this work without the help of people across the UK, like you, reporting when and where they find a species.

Brilliant for id and recording
I've been using this for several months and am really happy with it.
The id notes are really helpful and being able to upload photos taken earlier or take a picture in-app is good too. Getting location info is fast and easy.
Occasionally I've had to submit more than once when my connection isn't good enough, but that's fine - it's all saved and can be done later.
I was already using irecord, so didn't have to set that up. The best thing about it is that records get verified and I know that my recording effort is helping to build the national picture of ladybird distribution - and I can easily add records on holiday too. No need for different setup for each county recording scheme.
Will (not) upload reports
The app will not upload any reports, I'm using an iPad with the latest iOS, one star because it's useless.
I uninstalled then reinstalled and the app now works fine.
I have tried to upload a sighting twice on my iPad which runs the latest iOS 8.1.2 and both times failed
