‘Film criticism is rarely as much fun as Kermode, whether on the radio or in this hugely entertaining book’
David Hughes, Empire
‘A droll account of Kermode's rise to becoming the most prominent, and extravagantly quiffed, movie pundit in Britain’
Stephen Dalton, The Times
About the book
In It’s Only a Movie, the incomparable Mark Kermode takes us into the weird world of a life lived in widescreen. Join him as he gets lost in Russia on the trail of a low-budget horror flick, gasp as he’s shot at in Hollywood while interviewing Bavarian director Werner Herzog, cheer as he gets thrown out of the Cannes film festival for heckling in very bad French, and cringe as he’s handbagged by Helen Mirren at London’s glitzy BAFTA Awards. Written with sardonic wit and wry good humour, this compelling cinematic memoir is genuinely ‘inspired by real events’.

About the author
Outspoken, opinionated, and never lost for words, Mark Kermode has carved out a career in print, radio and television based entirely on the belief that The Exorcist is the greatest movie ever made and that the Pirates of the Caribbean films should be buried in a very deep hole where they can never bother anyone ever again. The Mayo and Kermode Film Review is one of the BBC's most popular podcasts, downloaded over 100,000 times a week. The Screen Directory has named Mark as one of the 'Top Ten Film Critics of All Time'.
I've always enjoyed listening to Mark's podcasts, so I'm very happy to see his book now available for my little gadget friend. Really like that the app still feels like a book and that I can swiftly switch from reading to listening - and it's Mark himself reading the book!
Dr K's book is an excellent read, but is even better when being read aloud by the author. Some fascinating observations, as well as the occasional full-on Kermodian rant, make this a must buy for anyone with even a casual interest in film.
An Enjoyable Yarn.
Good fun from 'The Doctor' (qualifications dubious)— please fill out the shelf with all your published works Dr. K. (if you even read this) @bornponrivulets
