Kindle experiences on iPad and iphone
I very rarely buy books now. Once you have downloaded a book onto your kindle app it is there to be read at any time, no Wi-fi needed. Reading in bed is easy, no lights needed, no disturbing the wife, no turning pages, no trying to peer at fold in the book, just open iPad , press kindle and the book you are currently reading comes open at the page you left off. If I pick up my iPhone and open kindle it will also open at the page you left off at BUT if you were reading the book on iPad more recently, the device will tell you that on another device you were further on in the book, and asks you if you want to go to that page. Yes and it skips forward to the appropriate page. My sister who now has poor eyesight, has taken up reading again using the kindle app on her iPad. She can easily increase print size very greatly.
Kindle books are normally much cheaper than paperbacks, with no post and packing. In fact you can read many kindle books for free! One iPad on holiday( which I would take any way as a camera, as well as to get mail) and I have 20 or 200 books to read.
Definitely a convert.
Kindle app great until it freezes
I am an avid reader and love the kindle app. My husband used to hate when I read in bed as he said that the light being on and the turning of the pages kept him awake. No problem with the kindle ( as long as the screen is facing away from him!). Only problem that I have found with the latest update is that if I have been looking at other things on my iPad and then come back to the kindle app, I often get the home page and have to go through a series of procedures to get back to the book that I was reading. The procedures include closing down other apps, pressing the app until it shakes - the process prior to deleting an app - then pressing the home page button. If that doesn’t work I turn off the WiFi button for a few minutes, the final option is to do a reset - press the off button and home button at the same time. If nothing works then I leave it for a while and it usually sorts itself out when I try to re-open the kindle app. I would give the kindle app 5* but reduced it by 1* due to this irritation.
Nice new icon, but ....
My only real complaint about the app is that the search functions are very clunky. If I want to bring all the books by one author (although I have over a thousand books, magazines etc on my Kindle, I do re read books before the next one is due to be published!) I have to find each one individually, open it so that it goes to the top of my lists, and then start the search again as it isn’t retained as yet. For a 61 year old lady nerd this just feels too cumbersome. Will there be any way of selecting all the books I want to read and then just be able to move them all to the top of my lists, please? I have also noticed that each time I use the app it shows me “New” books which I bought many years ago. Is this an attempt at reader control? I am, of course joking, but I’d appreciate a better way of searching and reading my books.
