Ratings and Reviews
I have hoped for a long time that the App Store would one day have this game and I finally found one. This is beautifully made. The design is fantastic. And you level up and go from world to world, it is very thoughtful.
I think what a lot of these other reviews are struggling with is the concept that it is an App and Apps do not work the same way old versions on other consoles worked and it had to be adapted properly for an App. The concept of energy for example, is an App thing. I do think the prices were set too high and they should offer the chances to win unlimited energy for a few hours (Candy Crush does that), but I find the energy I do gain back lets me play a few levels (you just have to think and use them wisely).
I have never had any problems with it not being online and crashing. I have never found fault. Hopefully over time they will bring in a few of the old features and actions. Tbh, why would you want never ending unlimited energy? You would begin to find it very boring if it was a non-stop game. Instead, you build your way up through each levels, and you just have to plan when you play each level to work out how to use less energy. I love it, and hopefully it makes improvements to the energy feature to give everyone the best game possible!
Absolute freemium disgrace
Like Dungeon Keeper, this port is an unashamedly freemium disgrace. Once you’ve finally made it through the initial training stages, you realise that you cannot actually play the game until you have paid extortionate amounts to be given ‘energy’ or ‘boosters’, introducing shameless money-grabs to provide players with items which weren’t even in the original game, just so that they can continue the new one.
It’s far worse than the usual ‘diamonds’ or ‘gems’ you find in the likes of Dungeon Keeper, too, because the attempt to deprive you of your cash is so desperate there are even ‘roulette-like spins’ for more of the items you already don’t want. £6.99 for ‘unlimited energy for 2 HOURS’ - I can’t even believe I witnessed that. I just hope parents don’t find themselves the victims of their young children gleefully tapping that illogical purchase button when the option rears its ugly head.
The graphics and feel of the port are great. The worlds are good. But, as with Dungeon Keeper, this is another game I would have willingly paid £15-20 for as a one time purchase, but will now simply delete from my phone because of its repugnant attempt to charge me for every second of enjoyment I get playing it.
It misses the point of Lemmings
I've put in a fair few hours of continuous play in this iteration of a classic puzzle game, and while it has it's positives, such as being easily accessible to all players, and levels that aren't especially taxing to solve, it lacks everything that made the original games so compelling and fun: sprawling levels where the entrance and exit couldn't be seen in the same screen, levels that got progressively more tricky with each success, a variety of different types of lemming other than the basher, builder, and umbrella, and only having finite amounts in which to save the Lemmings. By tying the resources to the "energy", you essentially give unlimited resources to solve a level which means that this game is not challenging, not original, and therefore not especially fun. I understand the need to work within the limitations of the hardware and still create something new and appease the original fans, but you'd have been better served to find a way to make the old format work for an updated generation. Show the new fans why the old games were so beloved, instead of what now amounts to a soulless cash-grab...
