A big development disappointment. T Was fantastic fun, privately sharing baby's progress

Sept. '17: edited. Heartbroken that recent app development makes each photo a 'card,' highlighting the number of likes & comments per photo. Guessing this was a developer- rather than feedback/client-led development: if I as a parent wanted to rack up likes & comments, I'd post my tiny tot's pictures on Instagram. This 'playing card' format breaks up the continuous-ribbon-of-picture-tiles format of our child's development that we & our friends & family had so loved. And it completely misunderstands the purpose of such an online photo book: to see the child's development; not the number of likes a picture of the child achieves. We're so disappointed & I don't want other parents to invest time in building up a photo book library here, when other secure photo-sharing apps for children offer the continuous-ribbon-of-picture-tiles that is such a joy to scroll through.
Original review. Great for friends and relatives abroad. They can select how frequently and how (smartphone alerts or email) they receive update notifications. We like the video slide show function too; it brings the pictures alive in a time lapse. You can order a photo book. In contrast to some social media websites, photos remain yours. Easy & intuitive to use. I'd like to know more about where servers are, under what data protection jurisdiction, cyber security etc.

Doesn't work on iPhone

I've attempted to get lifecake to work on my iPhone5 multiple times either from a web page or by downloading the App. My daughter sent an invite, but lifecake didn't download the app. I registered an account on the web, then down loaded the App. I then accepted the invite (email) but it said the email account is not recognised, or whoops the email is not registered. So I closed then reopened lifecake App. I tried again to accept the invite, it asked for the email address it was sent to and it sent me a magic link which when activated stated that I should use the same device I had requested the connection - I had!! I then bounced around for an hour with same issue, sometimes with it continually stating that the email was not registered even though I was currently logged into lifecake on the same device using the same address. This not good enough. I am IT savvy, I am a knowledgeable Iphone user. This software has major issues if it can't install itself successfully onto a primary consumer device.

Developer Response

Hello Redbaron165, thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear this. Accept invite would not work once you have already created an account from another device using the same email address, it might be that this has created the issue here. We are also sorry to hear that you had issues with the magic link, which should be opened from the native Mail App on your iPhone. Please write us on so that we can look into this further. Have a great day, The Lifecake Team

I love MOST of the app but...

This app is great in principle but has a couple of serious flaws.

Firstly they should really increase the storage space if they want people to use it in the long term. Once you hit the cap you are forced to pay for a premium service (and let’s face it the population that will do that is limited) or delete photos. If you are going to manage your photos like that you will invest in the time to move them to a free service like Google.

The other problem they have is that the app is sometimes a bit glitchy and I’ve had to delete and reinstall multiple times. In fairness my wife has had no problems at all.

Lastly, the premise of the commercialisation of the app was that they would monetise by offering paid gifts like prints, books etc. The number and quality of these is small and generic.

My family would be likely to purchase something more high end if it were on offer and I can’t help but think that they need a better approach to make this work.

I would have thought a community of non exclusive partners would be a way to make the choice on offer be increased and therefore drive more sales and revenue. I assume they must have gone in a different direction as what is on offer is essentially what you can buy from your local photography shop for pickup in an hour.

Hello RichStreet London, thank you for your feedback. At Lifecake, we work hard to keep your private moments safe and secure and we always keep the files in their original quality. You have 10GB of free space as the parent and you can always get bonus space by inviting family / friends or by referring Lifecake to other parents. We put the photos in chronological order to be viewed like an online album and to be shared within a selected group of family / friends, so we are different than Google Photos as we are focused on children. In regards to the problems you have had with the App, can you please write us on so that we can look into this further? For the printed products, we do have a HD Photo Book available on the website if you would like to purchase another product, do you think you would like this? If you have any suggestions for the products which we have on the App, please let us know, we would love to hear them! Have a great day, The Lifecake Team
