Beautiful and brilliant, but the controls are AWFUL!
Initially, i gave this game a 2 star review. That was because i hated (HATED is not too strong a word) the controls. They’re so clunky, and unworkable that they almost break the game … but then, the game is soo good. I’ve finished it now, and am enchanted by the world, the characters and the puzzles.
If i had been any one one of the people you see when the final credits roll up, i would be so pi***d off with the goon who wrote the UI, because they've really let the team down. Everyone else on the team has done fantastically! Art / Story / Puzzles - all top notch, but the person who was responsible for the UI was just out of their league, and have almost scuppered the rest of the game.
In summary, the game is brilliant in all respects except the controls. It’s almost impossible to get the little guy to do what you want, and yet the rest of the game is good enough that i put up with it (while cursing the fool who was responsible).
My original review:
So yes, it's beautiful and the puzzles are great (if a tad too obscure sometimes) but what really lets it down is the controls. So often I know what I want to do, but to can't get press / swipe / flick exactly (and I mean EXACTLY) right, and 5 mins goes by before I randomly hit the jackpot and get it done.
If I could get the little guy to go where I'd like him to, it'd be 5 stars from me, rather than an infuriating 2 stars.
Best app game ever
After playing Monument Valley the bar had been raised so I was thrilled when I came across this gem. It is truly a beautifully dark and enchanting game like no other.
The puzzles had me baffled (and frustrated!) at times but the sense of achievement when I moved on to the next one was great.
I've even downloaded it on to my sons iPad mini so that he can play. Yes, it's a little gruesome at times which makes him feel like he's playing a mature game but at least I know he's using his brain rather than mindlessly tapping away at the screen.
I'm very sad to have completed it and hopefully look forward to a sequel!
This "Game" is special (Limbo)
I've played only a few minutes of it and all ready I'm in love, the graphics is amazingly good even though it's in black and white not only the but it's 2D as well the company that has made this has done really well and I'm willing to pay for the next episode. (Hopefully there's more) I've finally found something that's built good down to its core, I really do hope I can see it come to life on my Apple TV, Apple Watch and my Mac thank you for doing such a good job for bringing it to the iPhone.
