"Download Mage Gauntlet. The time you spent reading this review could've been much better spent playing this incredible game." -- Toucharcade.com Review
Mage Gauntlet is a classic-style action-RPG, designed from the ground up for iOS. It's inspired primarily by 90's action RPGs for the Super Nintendo, such as Legend of Zelda: LTTP and Secret of Mana. We wanted to make a fast-paced RPG that doesn't waste your time with fetch quests.
Fight and explore your way through a humorous storyline about eccentric wizards, powerful artifacts, and dangerous monsters. Find items to customize your character's strengths and weaknesses. Enjoy smooth, responsive controls and fast, satisfying combat. When you beat the game, unlock a remixed Master Mode with overwhelming enemy numbers and new secrets to uncover.
- 84 levels (half normal, half in Master Mode)
- 86 achievements
- 110 hats (important)
- Variety of loot that adapt your character to different tactics
- 19 pets that follow you around and give different bonuses
- Quick leveling and stat system lets you customize character further
- Dash and Charge moves let you slip through enemy spell attacks

Mage Gauntlet. Just... Mage Gauntlet.
The story is amazing. By the time you finish Normal mode there are more questions than answers (Some plot points haven't even been talked about) and the game throws a HUGE curveball in the second-last level.
The combat is very well-balanced, your play style can be tweaked with artefacts (Say, one that makes a certain spell more common) and then powered up with robes and most of the weapons are really useful. The items (magic pots and hearts) are spread out very fairly.
I loved all the characters, even the stereotypical old wizard. (Yeah, that's YOU, Whitebeard.) Lexi is extremely likeable as a character, due to the fact that unlike other heroes, she gets tired of annoying enemies, talks smack to bosses, and actually acts like a normal person would. Also, SO many funny conversations and item/ achievement descriptions, in true Rocketcat style.
Lastly, my only complaint is that the game throws too many enemies at you at once (even in normal mode) , especially in the Crypt. Whether it's some big, scary enemies in among WAY too many small enemies, or FIVE FREAKING UBERDRUDGES. 😠
Mage Gauntlet is one of the best app games I've ever played. Go and play it. Or I'll throw you into the dark realm.
I had wayward souls already, but I decided to look and see what else the creators have made in the game itself, and stumbled across this gem. I've not had it for long, but I already love it. Its very much up the street of anyone who likes SNES/retro style Action RPG's (Like myself), playing a bit like secret of mana mixed with Zelda. It's got Fluid controls which never feel as cumbersome as some I've had to handle (on an iPod touch at least), good balance, good music, and a very likeable heroine in Lexi. Overall, very fun and highly recommend, although perhaps not so much on a tablet, as you can tell it's graphics were made for a small screen
Fun game. Brilliant retro rpg style graphics. Doesn't force you to buy in app purchases. Early levels are a little too easy but later levels have a well balanced enjoyable difficulty level. Get it!
