Ratings and Reviews

Improvement!?

Bevestar

Just to add to my review below- there is a fashion article in today's so-called Mail'Plus'. I can either read the text detail for all the dresses OR see, on the printed page, the dresses the text relates to. I can't, however, see both at the same time. The article spans two pages which makes it even more awkward when viewing on my tablet. The shambles that is the new version continues to reach new lows. I am now reading much less of the paper than I used to and find the rendering of pages of adverts (which I assume is one of the main reasons for this change) wasteful of my time.

What a disappointment the new 'improved' app is! It is a massive step backwards. If I wanted to read a print version I would buy one at my local shop. The old digital version was easy to read and had some excellent features. I was happy to recommend it, including to people in the same hotel in Spain recently, where there was wifi and where I woke up to find my digital Mail delivered to my iPad each morning. This new version is awful. When you try to zoom in the print does not focus consistently and pictures can pixilate. I've just tried to go back into today's copy, after taking children to school, and it automatically triggered an update. This is taking so long that I've had time to come online and write this review. Am thinking I might cancel my subscription as this is such a poor product.

New Mail Plus App

Zero stars would be more appropriate. The new App is nothing short of a disaster. I would certainly not have subscribed at the outset if the new App had been in use at the time. Is it possible to revert back to the old App?

This is a retrograde step when compared to the previous version. The impression given is one of "cost cutting". The majority of photos cannot be opened in Retina Quality format and are fuzzy and/or grainy. Unlike the seamless high quality of the previous version, the whole reading experience is disjointed and gives the impression of corners being cut to reduce costs. Articles have to be pinched/zoomed to determine what they relate to and whether they are worth opening up to read. The whole reading experience is disjointed and cannot in any way be classed as an improvement on the previous version. The previous App offered the option of a "replica" version of the paper and what we have now is is simply a variation on that.

Unless the App reverts back to the original format and/or is revised to improve upon it further, I will very regrettably have to consider other alternatives at renewal of my subscription which would be very disappointing as I am a long standing Daily Mail reader.

I have asked to be returned to the old app

I bought this app in its first version and whilst not perfect, enjoyed the app. I think it is also important that I signed up for a year with quality guaranteed during that period.

This new version is bad for people with vision problems ( as I have and was the only reason I bought the subscription) , as it only allows a zoom like a normal paper. I liked the fact that you set the font size (like kindle, iPad etc) and then navigated easily through to read the paper. The T guide was not perfect but was navigable.

Now as a previous reviewer said it is just like downloading the normal newspaper (which was always an option anyway). I tried to reinstall the old version but it is not possible, so my conclusion is this, The daily mail appear to have retracted the interactive iPad version to save effort, and we are receiving a forced inferior product. I have already informed them I will not resubscribe, but I feel cheated that I will now have access to an inferior product for the rest of my subscription period (6 months) and I presume no refund will be offered for the reduction in service. I also think it unreasonable that apple approved the update.
