Glorious game (From the view of a newcomer)
If only I knew how glorious this game really was sooner. I've watched top level matches but even those aren't like playing it for yourself.
As a first-timer I take no issue with the controls, as I have no benchmark and I'm used to iPhone gaming as it is. That being said, various moves seem to be impossible with the 4 button layout (Such as Amingo's ultras, seemingly requiring two punch or kick buttons when there is only the one) which is ofcourse no good at all. Sometimes a combination doesn't register but I don't have any long-standing problems.
Graphics never made the game, so I also take no issue with the pixelated character sprites. This CAN be resolved by changing the display resolution ingame, though you get a huge black border around the game where it's been scaled back down to 'correct proportions'. I'm not sure what people are talking about with low framerates, mine seem to be fine.
I would of thought character voices could be higher quality, though I don't know if they were reduced or if some are just that way from back in the day.
Lack of online multiplayer and/or online rankings hampers the longevity of this port looking past nostaliga, I know I'll only really keep going until I can beat Arcade mode, perhaps unlocking the hidden characters too.
All in all, if I had a XBOX360 or PS3, I'd definitely start to follow the series and get UMvC3.
Graphics graphics graphics !!!!
Capcom which 3D engine are you using STOP USING IT !!!! You have ruined countless classics, ghouls and ghosts, 1942 to name but a few, the texture scaling is horrible and it's not needed at all, your hand drawn artwork is much better. 3D for the sake of 3D when you have such talented 2D artists is just stupid although that applies to ghouls n ghosts and 1942 more than this game.
Also start using retina display graphics in your games it's nearly 2 years since the iPhone 4 was released and your still pumping out low res visuals and stretching and scaling them into a mess I can't even read the menus in this game because they've been scaled from the iPad version instead of dedicated visuals. who ever you commissioned for this port is incredibly lazy, I know it's probably been rushed for the Avengers but it's a port it's not like it's been done from scratch. Also the joypad is unresponsive really difficult to jump needs the sf4 control system
56 characters for £1.99 is great value but PLEASE PLEASE sort out the visuals you are not doing your classics any justice at all, you've turned excitement into disappointment, too many times.
Take me for. Bumpy ride
Hmmm, not sure about this, I've been hoping for months for a HD update for SF IV Volt for the IPad so got excited when I saw this was Universal. I've never played a Capcom Vs Marvel before, so I haven't got the nostalgia for it and I'm slightly underwhelmed at the moment. Graphics are low res which isn't a major issue if the games good, but there seems to be animations missing on the characters at times making it look choppy. Also the controls on IPad 2 aren't the best, the Dpad seems a little small on the IPad and sticky too, meaning that I often jump up instead of forwards, or sometimes charge up attacks are missed, meaning the combat is nowhere near as smooth and responsive as SF IV or Kings of Fighters IOS. Also jumping seems a little floaty. The other issue is when the AI characters jump, the screen moves with them leaving your character out of the screen, which can be confusing at first.
Also missing is World Online multiplayer, hopefully all these issues can be sorted with an update. It's a fun game, just not up to the standard of SF IV.
One other thing, I have this running decently on a 3rd gen IPod, despite Capcom saying its not compatible, if anything the Dpad is much easier on a smaller screen.
