This app is only available on the App Store for iOS devices.

Description

Play any synth or virtual instrument with your trusted old guitar, or record tablature by playing it.

##### Lots of user videos: jamorigin.com/videos #####

MIDI Guitar is the World’s first app to transcribe guitar playing into MIDI in real-time, with latency and accuracy comparable to expensive and inconvenient hardware MIDI guitar solutions.

MIDI guitar is 8 years under development(!) and based upon new advanced in polyphonic pitch detection and –prediction technology that can accurately recognize guitar playing and -articulation with very low latency and without spurious hits. The technology has been tested by thousands of beta testers.

MIDI Guitar use Virtual MIDI to drive other iOS synth apps or Garageband. It can also use WIFI-MIDI to communicate with Mac or PC digital audio workstations in a frictionless setup. Cable-based MIDI to control hardware synths or connect to DAWs with lowest possible latency.

In order to use MIDI Guitar you need a iPhone 5, iPad 4, iPod 6 or later. You also need a guitar interface for best results. We recommend a digital interface (using the lightning connector) over analog (via headphone jack), preferably with input gain control. Using an acoustic guitar with the built in microphone works for some purposes but is not optimal.

The free version will interrupt now and then, asking you to buy an in-app purchase. There are two in-app purchases. The first one gives you the full guitar rig and unlocks everything in the app EXCEPT the possibility to play external synths. For that you need the second in-app purchase, in addition.

So close....but hex pick up is still the choice for solo midi guitar

An incredible achievement - full poly midi from a single poly source! Hitherto thought pretty much impossible. But is it a viable alternative to hex pick ups? Not unless you are prepared to only use it for slow attack pads that sit behind a main guitar sound. The main problem still to resolve is false retriggering of notes within a held chord - I often get odd strings retriggering in a sustained chord for no reason. Also even after tweaking the noise gate and velocity settings its resistance to false triggers is a lot lower than say the Tripleplay. But to be fair, that is a helluva ask from software that will run on an iPad. I paid to unlock the the virtual midi output and when you combine MG2 with soft synths and Tonestack (or Bias) then you can create some incredibly complex textures. Is it stable / reliable enough to use as a solo midi voice? No but it's not far off. So 5 stars for the achievement and 3 stars for real world "usability" = 4 Stars

Very impressive...

I tried this out on a whim and soon bought the in-app purchases (FYI you have to buy the 'Extras' add on before you can buy the 'control external instruments' one).

It would be unrealistic to expect to be able to play really fast lead lines with a guitar-to-MIDI setup, as some latency is imposed by the laws of physics, but melody lines are perfectly possible.
Polyphonic washes of strings/synths work really very well indeed.
I'm very glad to have discovered this app, and may yet try gigging it with my band.

Fantastic app. Well worth it great upgrade

This is easily the best tracking midi guitar app. As with all this tech there are some latency issues due to physics. But this is the best it can get

Highly recommended.
