The way forward
Boognished review is a travesty of this game. We have played dozens of these hidden object/puzzle games and they are all woeful. Cheesy, terrible music, terribly predictable stories and tedious gameplay that is laughable in the extreme. But all the Midnight Mystery games are excellent. The graphics are as good as any other but what singles them out is an actual story line!!!! They are based in fact and actually provide information on real events along with a spin on the death of famous people such as Mark Twain and, in this case, Nathaniel Hawthorne. Some thought has gone into the story lines not just another haunted manor with no key to the front door and an empty generator somewhere that needs fuel. If you don't want to engage your brain then play the other mediocre Big Fish games out there - there are literally hundreds and they are all the same.
The puzzles in these games are actually different and require something different rather than the same old ones that are repeated over and over again. Buy these three games, great price for what you get and enjoy. The only issue with them is that when you are trying to us an item, the screen is sometimes not very responsive if you do not place the item in exactly the right place but you can use the hint to check if you are on the wrong lines if need be.
Badly designed, usual cheap feeling hidden object game which are churned out in their hundreds.
This one falls further than most, due to a boring story, some seriously bad dialogue and instantly forgettable puzzles. Graphics are pretty average looking on my ipad 3.
To top it off, one puzzle required me to put a door handle on a door of a miniature house. I attempted this many times, before wandering around trying to find an alternative solution. Eventually I cheated and looked up the answer, only to find that I did have to use the door handle. It took me several more tries to do it!
Worse, when required to open a coffin, I tried using a railway spike, but the game told me I did not have the required tool to proceed, then told me where to search for it. Google confirmed I had the tool all along.
The rest of the game is childishly easy. Just avoid it!
Brilliant example of its genre
Excellent visuals and good balance between HO and other puzzles based around a strong storyline. Went and bought the other two in the series because it was so good. A bit pricey if you go for the collector's edition but I thought it was worth it.
