For each journey you'll be awarded a gold, silver or bronze medal; where gold is the best performance, and bronze could do with some extra work. This is based on how you brake, accelerate and drive at appropriate speeds. Once you reach 200 recorded miles we’ll give you your Confused.com Score out of 100. This score is more reflective of your long-term driving habits.

Best of the driving apps
I have used this, the Drive Plus from Direct Line and the Aviva Drive. It is the most critical and marks your driving in four categories, unlike the other two which simply give a score. I have done over 500 miles on this app and have an overall score of 87. Anticipation 99, smoothness 93, Pace 90and Calmness 88. It doesn’t like short journeys and a long trip on a motorway wrecked my calmness which was 94! However it records your journeys accurately and if you do speed or accelerate or brake too quickly, it will show you where. I only have one episode and that is a software glitch as it had lost signal in a tunnel and then reckoned I over accelerated as it regained signal!
Still however the best of the three.
Not so good
Agree this does not like short journeys - marks me down despite driving very smoothly etc. I don't think it likes Mikton Keynes driving, which his quite different - very fast, safe grid roads but roundabouts less than 1km apart, so lots of accelerating and braking.
It might be coincidence, but with my old 3GS, I was getting bronzes, now I've upgraded to a 5s, I'm getting silvers for the same journeys. The 5s has a much faster processor and (I guess) a more up to date GPS receiver?
Could be better
No matter how agley and smoothly you drive, it hates your driving, that's it in a nutshell!
If you want a good score, do very short journeys for the whole time, it will take a while, but if you have the time then it's worth it, as it hates long journeys and you WILL get a bad score. Overall I have a score of about 70, goes up and down as you keep getting miles, but no matter how well it says I've done, it still made my insurance go up! Luckily I had an old quote!!
