This app has been specifically designed for iPads.
All the videos are part of this app, so no internet connection is required - making it perfect for in the classroom! To fit the large number of videos onto the app, the visual quality of the video has been reduced to make the MB size as low as possible.
Please note: This app requires iOS 4.2 or later.
TROUBLESHOOTING: A number of users have experienced no sound when initially playing the app content. Please check that you have switched the mute button off at the side of your hand set. Also check that the mute button is setup to be a sound selector rather than a orientation selector. Finally ensure that the volume slider on the video screen is zipped up to full volume. Everybody who has experienced sound issues has had success when following these instructions.

Ratings and Reviews
A 'Sound' App!
What a fantastic showcase of resources from an inspirational teacher. There are so many resources out there in shops and online that are out of date, but Mr Thorne, being a qualified teacher, has provided the most up to date advice and resources available for parents. As a teacher in Reception, in use this app for children's independent work. They access the iPad in their choosing time and listen to Mr Thorne like he is another teacher in our setting. The children in my class particularly enjoy the personal feel of the videos and talk back to Mr Thorne... A couple of them even role play as Mr Thorne and teach each other!
The videos demonstrate the exact strategies that teachers use so the children are familiar with what they see on screen. He also uses the correct terminology which has helped parents understand what to ask children and the sounds that our letters make.
Thank you so much Mr Thorne, I cannot recommend this app and your collection of videos of enough!
Keep up the good work,
Mr Faulder, John Davies Primary School, Nottinghamshire
I was eager to get my hands on a copy of this app which has been well discussed by my Twitter followers! I was not disappointed and found the app instantly easy to use with excellent content embedded throughout. Mr. Thorne is clearly an expert in the field of phonics and his passion for this approach comes through brilliantly in this engaging app. I used the app with my Year 2 class today on my IWB and the pupils instantly engaged with the content - I am looking forward to using it again tomorrow!
Not very good
Sorry to be a downer here, but someone's got to contrast the ravingly keen reviews.
This App is not very good. It's a menu with a selection of videos that trigger when you press their button, and that's the limit of the interactivity provided. As for the videos, they're kind of cute, and the narrator is generally enthusiastic, but the production quality is excruciatingly low. I'm also not especially convinced by their pedagogy beyond the use of phonics. There don't seem to be any clever techniques to encourage assimilation of the material – beyond some humour, it's just a dry list of words using a particular grapheme.
My five year old watched two videos with some initial curiosity and interest, then hit the home key and went off to design cars instead – I can't say I blame him.
There seems to be so much opportunity for a compelling, rewarding, addictive game to inspire and help children learn writing and reading. This is very far from it.
