Brilliant Game. Wish I had read the system req first… Doh!
I've played this and the first game on my iPhone before and they are superb games. I'm normally just in it for the single player and, though the graphics are a little simplistic thanks to it's iPhone and iPad origins, the "Halo for IPad" description fits very well. It isn't as open, the story isn't as deep but the quality is there.
I made a terrible mistake however. It was not Gamelofts fault, Apples or anyone else's. In my excitement to play this on a big screen I "just clicked" then I read the system requirements. It's right there in the text at the top, it doesn't work on the old iMacs that use the RadeonX1600 Graphics cards.
Make sure you read it first and check you can run it. It's something Mac users aren't so used to having to do (that's my excuse anyway.) At the time I bought this it was at a bargain price and I figured I could swallow the loss and put it down to my own foolishness. I did get to see that brilliant cutscene in HD though. Very cool.
This game is unmissable. Don't be put off by the Graphics (or by my trigger finger shopping error.) This is one of those games that all other FPS games of its' era should be compaired, if only iPhone and iPad games got the same press as the "big consoles."
Don't just take my word for it. A lot of people like N.O.V.A.
OSX 10.9+ a no go.
I bought this back on my power book 2007 model and the game was fun to play, i really do/did like this game, but my power book died and i had to replace it so i rushed out and bought a Mac Mini late 2012, on running the Mac Mini i find its already running OSX 10.9 so i logged in and downloaded my apps and games from app store, all worked apart from Nova 2 which has a circle with a line through it on the games icon, on clicking the icon i get Nova 2 don’t work with your OS Version, gutted really gutted.
As the game was released back in 2011 i don’t think its likely to be updated or fixed for OS 10.9+.
I do think the "compatibility 10.6.6 or later" up the top under information should read "10.6.6 to 10.8.5”
Still worth 3 stars as when your have the right OS version this is still a fun and good fps game for the money.
The game is £4.99 so I shouldn't complain however….
It's cringe worthy to be honest, like a certain game called Halo never existed. The voice acting is pretty bad, possibly inspired by Halo, it's no Master Chief and Cortana by a long shot, unfortunately it ruined the game for me. While the landscapes are attractive in the beginning, I felt I wanted to explore those areas yet I found out I was on rails just like so many other first person shooters. It's a shame really, the game holds your hand too much, I've been finding that a lot lately, directional arrows to show you where you are going, you just put your brain in neutral and shoot. Some of the switches/crates require a basic puzzle to be solved but that's about it.
I wish I could remove it off my purchase list, I'm not bothered about a refund :(
