Playback of notes (note-replay) breaks after editing on 2 devices :(

I just bought this today on Mac after buying it on iPad yesterday. The feature to take notes on the ipad while speaking is great... in principle. However there are issues:

When you move a block of text or change any of its attributes after typing the text, it is shown at its final position+attributes, the movement is NOT recorded. Thats not such a big deal.

BUT: When you record something (eg drawing a circle) on Mac, then wait until it autosyncs to ipad, then load it in ipad and draw another circle, it will all play back OK on ipad. First circle then second circle with correct audio. Wait until it syncs again on Mac and open on Mac and all your animation of drawing is gone - both circles appear already fully drawn from the start of the timeline. So, basically your nice animating notes showing you drawing/writing etc synced to audio are TRASHED if they are edited on both laptop and ipad. You must make sure that you only edit a note on the original creation device and only VIEW on the other. That renders it pretty useless unless you just want to use one of them as a read-only device.

I hope this will be fixed because it would make this app truly awesome, and I will update my review to 5 stars! Heres hoping!

Very good app - just missing that extra polish

A fantastic application for the price and any faults I can find are very minimal.

Competitively priced. I’ve bought both the iOS and mac version at the full £9.99 price and it’s still well worth it.
Clear, simple, beautiful interface. No evernote ugliness - that horrible green and lots of bloating.
No subscription fees.
Font scalling is nice.
Everything generally works well.

As far as I’m aware you can’t align text left/right/centre. A feature I’m quite suprised is missing.
You can’t click on a file name to rename it, you have to right click and click rename.
If you rename a note you’ve just created, sometimes it’ll refresh the preview in the library window as you’re renaming it and then the name defaults back to the previous filename and you have to click rename again.
A personal preference would be that when you click to reduce the formatting section and the library section that the window doesn’t change size, but that they just move out of the way.

Not for Serious Use

It’s OK for jotting notes down - but there’s the native Notes app for that. I hoped that Notability would offer something extra.

I want to use it to manage my work projects - but it’s a pain. Ideally I’d have a folder for each project and then sub folders inside them. Notability appears able to do this, but in practice it can’t. Notability has Subjects and Dividers. I can set up Dividers for Projects (e.g. Project 1, Project 2) and then subjects inside the dividers to organize them - e.g Meetings, Goals, Actions. Problem is that I can only have one subject called “Meetings”. Once I’ve created a “Meetings” subject for Project 1 I can’t have another “Meetings” subject in any of the other Project dividers. It’s ridiculous and makes it unuseable for me.

Also you can’t print from the app. If you try it puts everything on landscape and misses off the top third of whatever it is you want to print. All the docs are stored in the app instead of in a folder structure which maked archiving and integration with other project docs a pain.

The devs are communicative but totally unsympathetic about the issues. It’s a shame - it’s so close to being useful but the lack of structure means that Notes is a better option than Notability.
