The Numeracy Map is a highly visual and effective way of showing how answers for add, subtract, divide, multiply, and fraction calculations can be arrived at. It is ideal for both school and home use.
The App is carefully designed to asses and build skills for the beginner right up to the most advanced student. Because the Numeracy Map is so visual, we have created a view mode where you simply watch answers being arrived at on the map. Then we have practice mode where the user works alongside the map.
Finally we have quiz mode with a beat-the-clock element, where a user is fully tested.
All scores are logged and you can gauge at glance how a student is getting on, and there is also a detailed page showing all times and scores.
On successful completion of the skills sets and assessments at all three levels, the user will be good at numeracy
The Numeracy Map stems directly from Tom Renwick's research into alleviation strategies for dyscalculia (the numeracy equivalence of dyslexia), where he identified a number of beneficial strategies, one of which he subsequently referred to as the 'Numeracy Map'. He now believes it's as fundamental for numeracy as the alphabet is for literacy, and, that good use of the 'numeracy map' can benefit most learners, some greatly.
Tom Renwick is a leading numeracy in-service provider for primary and secondary teachers, and he is keen to help as many children (and adults) be as good as they can be at numeracy (then good at numeracy = better at maths!)
The App can store more than 35 users, so it's ideal for teachers in the classroom. In settings you can mute the music and change the background colour, and in profile you can either take a new photograph, choose a picture from your own camera roll, or get one from the app's gallery.
Created as a matching version as we now have a buy outright for schools etc. This version still has in-app purchases. App icon artwork adjusted
Ratings and Reviews
This app did not function. Once I had set up a user profile there doesn't t seem to be any 'button' to clock that takes you to any activities. Or am I missing a trick?
Just what we needed with our 6yr old who struggles at maths
Good app many possibilities
The app is not the flashiest I have ever seen. However, it provides a great tool/s for formative assessment in the apps key areas. Rather than rely on flashy animated characters and child friendly animations it has allowed me to use the app as a coherent diagnostic and learning tool for my students who are struggling with these basic operations. Great within the K-3 areas.
