A wise man once said "We are all at the mercy of our wild monkey minds. Incessantly swinging from branch to branch." With multiple windows and applications all vying for our attention, we have sadly adapted our working habits to that of the computer and not the other way around.
OmmWriter is a humble attempt to recapture what technology has snatched away from us today: our capacity to concentrate.
Voted as best new application by cultofmac users in 2009, OmmWriter is a tool that makes writing a pleasure again, allowing users to be alone with their thoughts; to concentrate and to write without distractions. More than a word processor, OmmWriter is a place to get inspired.
The secret to OmmWriter lies in its simplicity and apparent lack of functionality. OmmWriter Dāna pays special attention to audio and visual effects that contribute to the overall writing experience. We have spent a considerable amount of research time and effort in the audio-visual experience to promote and enhance creativity. Dāna II is the fruit of this investigation with new dynamic backgrounds employing chromatherapy techniques as well as new sound effects.
If you are a scriptwriter, blogger, journalist, copywriter, poet or just someone who enjoys writing, welcome back to concentrating.
What others are saying:
“You either love it or you hate it. Some Cult readers loved it so much they voted it as one of the best new applications of last year.” –John Turnbull for Cult of Mac
“Part word processor, part work of art, OmmWriter is a must for people who journal, blog, or do any kind of writing where creativity and idea-generation is key. Give it a try.” -Michael Grothaus for TUAW
“The modern computer experience is amazing for distracting you from work… Omm Writer Dana doesn’t lock you in a dark room until you force the words out, but rather creates a space in your head that allows you to focus on what you want to say.” -Bill Stitleler for Appletell
What's New in Version 1.3
***For a happy update experience, please read below. :)***
This version has one major change: All the audio is completely new. The reason why is that we no longer have the legal rights to use the old music in OmmWriter.
This updated version contains 4 new music tracks, 3 new ambient sounds, and 7 new keystroke sounds. The total number of audio options is the same as before. All other major features are also the same as before.
If you make this update, you'll be unable to use the audio that you have in your current app store version of OmmWriter. If you do make this update, you'll discover a less piano-based audio with softer strokes and richer textures.
If you want to hold on to the old tracks while finishing a project, then you can always keep the current version. If you're ready for a change, come join us on our new audio journey.
Happy listening and writing to everyone!
Complete list of updates and fixes:
- Replaced original audio with a new full set of music and sounds.
- Keyboard adjustments for still visible and stable keyboard
Pretty but almost unusable
In pursuit of a clean an minimal interface, this app has been stripped of all useful signifiers for navigation and functionality. I find myself having to repeatedly refer to the info button just to understand what each button is supposed to do. The keyboard feels incredibly clumsy, especially without autocorrect and I find myself having to repeatedly correct spelling mistakes. This app is meant to be about removing distractions, but the app itself has become a bigger distraction than the very things it is trying to help with.
Give it a go
This seems back on track. I really do like this.. It is not highly functional, but its simplicity, beauty and the musical background make for a calming influence. Give it a try. Nothing quite like it.
SORT IT OUT PLEASE!
This is the only app I have paid for and so far I've been able to use it 5% of the time. In the last version the keyboard would disappear and would not come back so I waited for an update. Now, with this new version, the text disappears after the first second or two. PLEAS SORT IT OUT - IT'S NOT FAIR TO TAKE PEOPLE'S MONEY FOR SOMETHING THEY CAN'T USE
