Oval Money helps you set savings aside, automatically, thanks to tools (we call STEPS) based on your habits.
You can link Oval Money to your bank accounts and cards and have an overview of your monthly earning and spending habits, categorised automatically.
You can then set saving Steps that allow you to set aside savings based on round-ups of your transactions, or a fixed amount or % of the amount you spend in chosen categories.
You can link your social media accounts and you can also set saving Steps based on your social media habits, like setting aside a chosen amount for every time you post on your wall.
Oval Money helps EVERYONE save, without being any finance guru; join the community of Ovalers and you also can be money wise!
FREE AND SAFE!
- No hidden fees, the entire app is free!
- Oval Money has only read access to the transactions in the accounts you connect. Your account credentials are never stored and we will never make transactions on your behalf.
SAVE BASED ON YOUR SPENDING HABITS
If you’d like to save 50p every time you purchase a posh coffee, or 3% of your gym membership, just set a Step, Oval will take care of the rest!
Here are the three Steps you can set on your transactions:
- Round-Up: Rounds-up the price of your purchases and sets aside the difference, making it possible to look after pennies so the pounds can look after themselves, as your grandmother used to say.
- Percentage: Calculates a percentage of what you spend in a chosen category and sets it aside.
- Fixed Amount: Takes a fixed amount every time you spend in a chosen category and sets it aside.
SAVE BASED ON YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA HABITS
Oval is unveiling a new set of Steps based on APIs from leading social networks.
Oval will be launching new integrations that allow you to link your savings activity to your social media activity. By activating the new Steps, you will be able to save a chosen amount based on your social media usage.
SAVE ON A RECURRING BASIS
Oval is designed to create the best saving experience for EVERYONE. If you'd rather have a simple fixed recurring saving plan, then there's a Step for you too. Activate the Recurring Top-Up Step, set how much you'd like to save every week, then sit back and see your savings grow.
You will be able to make better spending decisions. By linking your bank accounts and credit cards we'll give you an outline of your earnings and expenses. If you want more detail on your spending habits, Oval allows you to create custom tags for each transaction. These tags are searchable making it possible to quickly find out exactly how much you are spending on certain items. Our personal finance experts are constantly on the hunt for tips and tricks to make saving easier. These are shared in-app through notifications, and are explained in greater detail in our blog posts. We also invite our community of Ovalers to share methods that have worked for them.

Ratings and Reviews
Works well, has some tweaks to fix
Overall the app works quite nice, it does everything for you without lifting a finger. Also add ons to save more is also available if you want to save up more quickly.
However there is one isssue that is bugging me. The duration it takes for money to arrive from my bank account to the oval account. Says roughly 5-10 working days, yet always has had minimum 10 days to get there. It shows you the money is on its way and so far it always got there with a bit of a wait, yet we are in a place where most uk banks can do transfers and payments almost instantly, surprised this app cannot accommodate that. If that changes I’d give it easily 5 stars.
If you do not mind the extreme long durations for money to arrive (withdrawal also takes 5 working days to get back, so don’t expect to get it back on the same day) I’d suggest to give it a try as I saved quite a lot within 2 months of use only.
Capital at risk
READ THIS REVIEW BEFORE RISKING YOUR MONEY. At first I couldn’t have said enough good things about this app, but after I got to about £200 in my savings I felt like the money would be better in a savings account, earning interest. So I tried to withdraw it, it took its usual 3/4 days and the money still hadn’t hit my bank. I checked the app and there was a little red triangle next to the withdrawal that told me “you have tried to withdraw more than was in your oval account” yet my balance remained at £200+.. I messaged oval and it took them 3 days to reply. They told me I couldn’t access my money without verifying my ID, very strange as I’ve never had to do that before and it was never mentioned. I’m just glad I have either a driving license or passport because some people don’t! So anyway, ID accepted and £74 appeared to have been withdrawn to my bank? Leaving £132 in my oval, so I’ve tried to withdraw that twice now, to have the withdrawal rejected in the same way, oval have said their IT team are looking into it? So I’ve £132 of MY money stuck in the oval app, with no protection if they decide I can’t have it back. SCUMMY SCAM ARTISTS.
Don’t trust with your money
As you will see in other people’s reviews this app is great until you try to withdraw money. While often taking longer than the already excessive 5 working days stated to withdraw, previous withdrawals did at least happen. This is no longer the case. Last week I put through a withdrawal request which the app said would be with me in 5 days. Today, having not received it, I checked the app to find that my withdrawal had been cancelled without any notification. I was then told I could not withdraw money anymore without reverifying my account. I contacted the live chat where a very unhelpful person explained to me that regulations made it impossible to process withdrawals and deposits without this. Strange that they had no issue depositing hundreds of pounds but suddenly feel bound by these regulations when it comes to giving that money back. I would not trust this company with your bank details or your money, other reviews prove that this is clearly not an anomaly.
