Local bus and coach tickets – all in one app
Oxford Bus Company’s free app allows you to buy tickets for city, park and ride, X90, the airline and Thames Travel Services.
Key features on our free app:
• Buy tickets in the app to use immediately, or save for later – you can gift mobile tickets to other people. Payments are made securely with your credit or debit card, as well as Paypal.
• Plan a journey on our network and it will show valid journeys which includes our buses and the relevant ticket that matches that journey.
• Real time departure boards
• View your bus on a map and track the next stop on your journey
In v1.11.0 we have:
- Changed the layout of the departure boards to make better use of the screen space available
- Done some work to improve the accuracy of the bus position on the live bus view.
Ratings and Reviews
Activation of the ticket
The app doesn’t explain that if you activate your ticket and you don’t scan it on the bus within 10 minutes you loose it.
What the app says is that the activation will expire in 10 minutes which isn’t exactly the same as loosing your ticket.
I activated my ticket when I left home and when arrived at the bus told the driver that I wasn’t certain how to show him my ticket. In a rush, he said I had only 57 seconds left to scan the ticket on the bus scanner otherwise I would lose it. What a stressful moment! The scanner couldn’t read my phone at once and I had to try several times.
Who designs an app that makes you activate your ticket only when you are going to enter the bus? What if my internet fails and cannot activate it? Why after activation I cannot have a photo of my ticket which I can show the driver and after I scan it on the bus it deactivates?
How do you use the app
Nowhere in the app do they explain how to use the app once you board the bus. Some step by step instructions would be very helpful, not on how to pay of the ticket they got the bit about taking your money covered.
I’m talking about step by step guide for what to do once you board the bus, how does the app interact with the gadget on the bus?
E.g. I’ve got the ticket on my phone, I board the bus, how do I let the driver know I’ve paid for the ticket.
This kind of step by step instruction within the app would be especially helpful for the non-tech travellers who want to try this new gizmo but are still tech-novice.
Therefore I give this app a pitiful 2 star rating for not being tech-novice friendly.
Many thanks for the feedback! Based on your comments we've put together a short video explaining this, which is already proving popular with other customers. We hope it helps! Here's a link: https://youtu.be/qt3LA0BXC7U
Better that the last one?
I’m glad you’ve fixed a few bugs from the last one, so it was now possible to buy a ticket and check bus stops. HOWEVER! I went to London and the Marylebone bus stop said it was one stop (as did the physical sign at that location) for the x90 but that was a lie and it was the stop 2 streets away, luckily a fellow traveller in the queue spotted it and we all had to run. Then my app froze and it wouldn’t let me open by ticket , awkward. Would also like the ticket opening times to be longer than 10 minutes, our buses in Oxford are very unreliable so we’ve got to activate it as we see the bus coming not before.
Sorry for the delay in reply. This stop relocation was done at very short notice but was fixed as soon as possible afterward. Hope it's all working OK for you now.
