What's New in Version 2.5.3

Think Kit is here! Now Paper gives you the power to create diagrams, charts, and wireframes at the speed of thought. Think Kit adds three new tools—Diagram, Cut, and Fill. Powered by the Intention Engine™, Think Kit helps you quickly create powerful, personable graphics to express any idea, and continue seamlessly into your favorite presentation app.

Create flow diagrams, org charts, axis lines, and wireframes. Diagram is a smart pen that transforms circles, rectangles, and triangles into corrected “smart shapes” that you can easily fill and arrange. You can also draw straight lines and connectors between smart shapes.

Add color to your ideas. Quickly create freeform color fills for trend lines and pie charts, or tap on a smart shape to fill it.

Rearrange shapes and create patterns. Select anything and move it with the Cut tool. Tap with selected objects to copy.

The Think Kit tools live just to the left of the tools you’ve come to know and love, and you can get back and forth by swiping sideways on the tool tray.

Connected to your workflow
To go along with the release of Think Kit, we’ve also redesigned Paper’s sharing functionality. Now you can create beautiful, custom formatted presentations that open in your favorite apps, including PowerPoint and Keynote, and save to Dropbox and Adobe Creative Cloud.

Try it out!
Think Kit’s Intention Engine™ is based on years of research by FiftyThree, but we’re including the entire Think Kit toolset for free in this version of Paper. Think Kit works best with Pencil, our award-winning Bluetooth stylus. Get one today at

Once you’ve had a chance to try Think Kit, we’d be grateful if you’d leave us a review in the app store! A good review helps us more than you probably imagine, and now that reviews go into our Slack channel, we read and often talk about every one of them.

Other Improvements
Lots of bug fixes and stability improvements.

Moving towards perfection!

Recent upgrades make this my go to app for professional electronic note taking. Am loving it.

Zoom, and select/move have been neatly done. Thanks for those. For me the zoom could be delivered with a rounded oblong lens - handwritten notes with the circular aspect may be fine for colouring in but is like writing into a jam jar lid. An option in settings?

It's incredibly versatile for taking notes, sketching slides, building storylines, noodling, doodling, designing and creating.

I am using this amongst other things for turning meeting notes into presentation decks in real time. It's INCREDIBLY POWERFUL and efficient but some tweaks would be really really valuable and make the process twice as quick:

1) Would be neat to be able to switch between chosen writing implement and the shape/fill/select tool box without having to swipe and then select. One touch would make any designing with shapes and words much easier.

2) NEED duplicate as pop up option on selection of scissor selection. ie clipboard functionality to be able to copy/move selections them within page, cross page, and cross book.

3) NEED simple resize, (a handle/spot bottom right on selection shouldn't spoil look and feel). Press and hold to resize within aspect. Double press and hold to allow free-aspect resize. Maintain line weight at default to prevent loss of look and feel.

Apologies for solutionising - love you guys! And have two pencils.

Nearly there two small steps to perfection plus some nice to haves

I have used Paper 53 since launch and intuition said that it was always going to be the right app for a creative thinker and note taker. I have used the app,to varying degrees but it was never compelling enough to be my go to app for ideas and notes. Think kit has changed that to a large degree it works really well and is great for building diagrams. The two elements that would make it a slam dunk would be the ability to move smart shapes between pages as this would in effect create a templating facility and the ability to rotate a smart shape. If Apple do release a larger screen ipad then things like having two pages open at once or a larger page would be transformational. For now the ability to move smart shapes between pages would be more than enough. Great app. Thanks

Needs improved functionality and features

Intuitive to begin with but irritating in parts and lacking key features. Given the pen as a present - good stylus -guessed retina features would be absent but no Bluetooth connection to iPad 2, so just an inert stylus for me. Seriously lacking default white paper setting with enlargeable/ croppable canvas, ability to import pictures and tracing paper layer for overlay sketching, proper copy & paste and flood fill. Most irritating
feature is lack of a simple undo /back arrow, instead a ridiculous anti-clockwise double finger motion is needed. It is however easy to start using and make attractive cartoons. Even without full functionality on i-Pad2, the missing features would make this a five star review.
