When inspiration happens, put it on Paper. Paper is the best way to capture and connect your notes, photos, and sketches. Create checklists, spotlight details in photos, and sketch diagrams with unbeatable speed and ease — Paper is like a wall of sticky notes for everything that inspires you.

Paper’s swipe-to-style formatting makes creating checklists and notes faster and more fun than any other app. The photo spotlight tool helps you quickly clarify essential details.

Bring text, photos, and sketches together. Keep your ideas organized, and see everything in one place to make connections you can’t see in siloed lists.

Paper’s unique visual notes are designed to help you get your point across quickly and precisely. Paper also lets you share your ideas any way you want to, including as professionally-formatted PDFs, Keynote and Powerpoint presentations.

The original iPad version of Paper is a winner of Apple’s App of the Year and is used by millions around the world. The Universal version adds support for iPhone, in addition to text, photos, and sketching, all beautifully designed for touch. Paper is completely free with no in-app purchases.

What's New in Version 3.6.0

This update to Paper introduces a fast navigation sidebar for quickly searching and browsing between your work. We've improved the card preview to show your creations full screen so you can swipe between cards without accidentally marking them. This update also includes ink enhancements for Apple Pencil and a stylus settings option to use your finger to cut and paste.

We've redesigned our basic navigation structure to be more efficient and we've added search. Moving between your work is now more like a sprint than a marathon.

Swipe through your work full screen. We've made the previews in Paper big and beautiful so you don't have to enter edit mode to see the details.

We heard your feedback and adjusted Paper's inks for Apple Pencil. The previous ink pooling and transparency levels have been restored for the Write tool. The Draw tool's pressure response has been improved at flat drawing angles.

In what we've dubbed "scissor hands", connecting Pencil by FiftyThree or Apple Pencil to Paper now gives you the option to automatically use the Cut tool when your finger touches the canvas. Your stylus can draw or write with the selected ink tool, and your finger can quickly cut and move pieces of your sketch. If you use Paper to take notes or arrange diagrams, you may find this particularly useful. To turn this feature on, go to Pencil Settings and select "Cut" from the list of options for your finger.

Give us back the original Paper spirit! (3.6 update)

Don't trust the FAKE enthusiastic reviews... They are planted by "the team"! In one single swoop, without warning, you have decided to "innovate" and ruin the app... I say take away paper stacks, take away that hodgepodge bullet point implementation, eliminate the Jumbled UI... Give us back elegance, cleanliness, intuitive gestures, minimal look. Reinstate Mix, flipping pages, Moleskine look, the loupe, the rewind gesture. Make them optional if you are so convinced you are in the right... But let us go back using Paper on iPad to facilitate creativity as it was before these misguided "productivity" mutation of the app... Well whoever decided these changes must be fired! I am sure Microsoft Office would be a better project match for him/her. ;-)

3.2 tries to remedy to some of the issues users complained about, but it is not fully successful. It still compromises a lot in terms of cleanliness and usability of the UI. Stacks are less messy, but still messy, tools are now ALWAYS in the way... A step backward away from the zen clean space it used to be... Not there... This does not earn it any of the stars it lost... Sorry 53, try harder!

Great app

While I like paper and what I can do with it, I dislike the new menu/layout as I find it takes longer to navigate to where I want to go compared to before as well as less intuitive. I understand that some people might like it, so therefore can there please be an option to revert to the old menu style for those that want to. Otherwise, great app and very useful for drawing and making notes, with a wide range of colours and pen types. The allowing of exporting as images is also very useful, especially for me as it allows me to incorporate images and diagrams in my university notes.

Once Best-in-Class, Now Simply Fine

With Paper 3's move to iPhone, FiftyThree seems to have lost the spark that made the original Paper such a joy. Where once there was focus and direction, now Paper feels unsure of itself.

For whatever reason, many updates after making the app universal, you still can't sync between devices or view notes on desktop/web, which severely hinders it's usefulness as a notes app. Sadly I find Apple's Notes app to be superior for this.

While the interface in general has made significant progress since the 3.0 update, it breaks my heart to see FiftyThree resorting to sidebar menus and tutorial popups after that original version was so intuitive.

It's not all bad - the text formatting in particular is wonderfully intuitive in the way I've come to expect from FiftyThree, and it's a brilliant sketching app for Apple Pencil - but this is a studio who is capable of so much better. I feel they've sacrificed too much of what made Paper special to make an iPhone version work, and I'm not sure it was worth it.
