v3.0 ruined the app... What a shame!
This used to be an amazing drawing and creativity app... Since version 3.0 it has been transformed into a messy jack of all trades... Users have risen against this imposition, reviews have been abysmal for many months... But nothing... The developers for some reason thought they could not monetize it enough (failed acquisition from Apple?), accepted a seed of funding and faced the growing competition by challenging EVERYONE at once. This app tries (and fails) to be Instagram, Apple Notes, One Note, PowerPoint, Keynote, Snapseed... And forgets that it was UNIQUE, it was Paper, the best at what it was doing, clutter free, intuitive support for immediate creativity... In the future we will see more and more integration with Microsoft (where the founders used to work) and a subscription model for space/storage/sync... Which in a way is already angering legacy users who bought the app and the tools to use it. The outrage at the downgrade in UI usability has been UNIVERSAL, and from a consistent 5-star rating we now see just 1-star complaints. Fiftythree has to realise they made a mistake and go back to the fundamentals of this app... Create a second one for notes and presentations if they believe it will be more popular, but piggybacking on the loyalty of their initial user base hoping to be an instant hit... Simply did not work... Sorry, don't say we hadn't warned you. :-/
Was recommended this app to have with my 53 pencil
I got my 53 pencil, and to be honest prefer it than the Wacom Intuos stylus, and is perhaps the closest thing to get on a normal iPad to the iPad Pro's Apple Pencil. Installed this app, and thought it would be a great tool to do some sketches on before moving them to Mac for the final work in Manga Studio via Astropad. Seen reviews online about it being an awesome app , but unfortunately I have the new version which does not seem to be as good and being art focused for sketch work before doing final work on the Mac/Pc. It looks like its become a business jotting app, rather than an wart starter app for new art work and art projects.
Not getting worse
Paper went through a terrible catastrophe when changing from a single-purpose tool to a jack-of-all-trades. Obviously the old focus is not coming back.
The good news is that it's not getting worse, and it still will do all of the things it did, with not much more interface clumsiness. I've come back to using it and it's still, in fact, OK.
So, well, while I can't forget what was done to it, perhaps I can forgive.
