Description

PLEASE NOTE: The latest app version requires iOS 8 to enable the "Personal Health Record" functionality. If you are using an earlier iOS you can still download the previous version that gives access to all other features.

---

Patient Access is a service that lets you access your local GP services through your mobile. With Patient Access, you can access your local GP services from home, work or on the move wherever you can connect to the internet. Because Patient Access is a 24 hour online service you can do this in your own time, day or night.

Make life easier by getting access to your own 24-hour "receptionist"! No more waiting on the phone in queues, just use Patient Access to book/cancel your appointments, order repeat prescriptions, and message your practice.

Make appointment bookings online or via the app - with calendar reminders and one touch cancellations, it couldn't be easier.

View your medical record information held at your practice, if they have chosen to enable this feature.

And now you can connect Patient Access with Apple Health to create a Personal Health Record which you can choose to share with your health professional (iOS 8 only).

If your practice has turned these options on, With Patient Access, you will be able to:

* Book new appointments without having to phone.
* Cancel appointments you can't attend any more.
* View all appointments you have coming up.
* Order repeat prescriptions so they are ready to pick up.
* Change your address and contact details in seconds.
* Send a secure message to your practice.
* View your medical record held at your practice.
* Upload your health data from Apple Health to a Personal Health Record which you can choose to share with your health professional (iOS 8 only)

Your local GP may not offer every Patient Access feature. Ask at your practice to find out which are available to you.

You must have registered at a participating EMIS practice to use Patient Access. Around 1 in 4 GPs in the UK currently offer the Patient Access service.

PLEASE NOTE: YOU NEED TO HAVE AN EXISTING PATIENT ACCESS ACCOUNT TO USE THIS APP.

Excellent

Core functionality (appointments and prescriptions) is brilliant. It's really easy to make appointments and very reliable in ordering repeat prescriptions, though be sure to always put in the pharmacy you want to pick up from as it's just gone to the surgery on occasion.

Touch ID would address the password requirement issue people have (though this is hardly a massive issue).

Can't speak for the health data as I don't use it from this app.

People giving it 1/2 stars are distorting the overall rating. It functionally works perfectly and is way beyond what I would expect from the NHS / doctors surgeries, making life particularly easier if you need regular medication!

Crappy web app!

This is nothing more than a web view wrapped around the actual web site.
This means that you have to sign in every time instead of the app taking care of that for you.
And graphics are not even optimised for retina displays.
At the very least, have the app store login credentials so that the user doesn't have to enter them every time. And preferably implement the functionality in a native app, otherwise what is the point of having an app instead of just using the web site?

Needs Biometric Login

Personal medical data, as we are always being told, is highly sensitive and therefore should be protected by very secure passwords etc. This then makes it very difficult for users to remember long and complicated passwords without having a version written down with them. That kind of defeats the purpose. If ever there was an App that should make use of fingerprint recognition to enable login this is it! Very disappointing on an otherwise useful App.
