Perfect pocket sized baby entertainment
I'm already a big fan of Ladybird's Baby Touch book series as I have been using them with my 6 month old baby since birth so I was over the moon when they launched this app. The books are pretty chunky so it's not always practical to schlep them around with a 17lb wriggling monster but all you love about the books is recreated and rejigged for your iphone. Brilliant!
4 themed sections include sea and farm and your baby plays peekaboo finding the animals in each. At my daughter's age, she just let me do the work but it's easy to see how a slightly older baby will just love touching the screen to reveal who's hiding in each picture. The design and bold colours are totally baby friendly (My little one LOVED the moment the pufferfish came out towards the screen with its big eyes for example!) and a great alternative is to just play the 4 chapters like a movie (which I found v handy on the train yesterday when I had my daughter on my lap and let her sit and watch the whole thing). The music and voice over is pleasingly non-irritating too (well so far after a week!).
Great value, although can anyone put a price on a whole 10 minutes of baby entertainment when you are out and about and desperate to distract??!
Baby Touch Peekaboo
My thirteen month old son loves the Baby Touch books. When we heard Ladybird had developed a Baby Touch app I was curious to see how all the tactile and interactive elements would translate on to the Iphone or Ipad.
I am pleased to say it really has worked very well indeed. There are four 'themes' to choose from. Each theme is accompanied by a friendly, enthusiastic narrator's voice and the familiar, engaging Baby Touch illustrations. The 'touch' element comes comes in the form of touching the screen to reveal elements hiding under other things. It really is a fully interactive app which brings the touch element into the digital age.
For us, we will continue to use the books on a day to day basis but the app is really useful for those moments like long waits in doctors waiting rooms, car journeys etc etc.
Great fun, but maybe for toddlers/preschoolers rather than babies
My 11-month-old baby loved this and has been having lots of fun playing around with it. It has entranced him - and although he has occasionally been able to interact with it by touching my ipod, he mostly lunges for the entire ipod and tries to put it in his mouth.
So, on the whole, it's been more of a hit with my four-year-old, who - worryingly - is an expert at using my ipod. She reports: "I love this, especially the noises and making it change with my fingers".
Both children love the bright colours - and having this in my bag on bus/train journeys will be great.
Up to six family members will be able to use this app with Family Sharing enabled.
