Plasma Sky is a shiny new space shoot-em-up featuring over 100 levels, lots of power-ups, and multiple game modes. It's universal, and there will never be any ads or in app purchases.

There's lots of kinds of enemy ships, and snakes, and your ship powers up and can get different kinds of ammo. There's a regular shield, but also a spike shield that lets you ram enemies. There are bosses! And there's lasers! And you can get wing-men who can power up too! And you and your wing-men can get lasers! And the levels are all different! And there's other stuff! And it barely costs anything!

Look, you need a good game to keep you company on the bus, or while your dinner companion is away, or when you've already done enough and you need a break. This is it. This is that game. This is the game you'll get to make that time awesome.

Ratings and Reviews

Not quite at a level to make you want to keep playing

It looks good, it’s smooth, it’s responsive, but I think it needs an easy, medium and hard setting, plus the power ups don’t last long enough. Also you seem to get a good power up right at the end of a level and then it takes it off you for the next level. It would be nice to have an option to keep power ups. Perhaps a shop type thing where you make credit in the game then buy permanent power ups. Not real cash though as in in app purchases as that would drive me and no doubt others away. I hate games with in app purchases.

Oh, and what’s with level 90? Is that level even possible? I think not. I reckon level 90 is pretty much the end of the game as it looks impossible to complete without getting lasered to death.

Just right

Whilst it starts off deceptively easy and with brisk progression through the first load of levels, there is a nicely refined difficulty curve which gradually and elegantly raises without ever seeming unfair or tedious.

After dozens of plays, I still find myself drawn to chasing down a high score, the minimal achievements and leader boards seem to work in favour here promoting a one-track mindedness to attaining that top position.

Plenty of "one more goes" here, and whilst dying at level 60 is crushing, it's never a chore to pick up and start over. I must admit thinking the fixed nature of the waves in place of a randomised sequence may become repetitive but I now see how well it works here, learning how to perfect each wave is part of the charm and the slightly predictable nature just makes it flow easier.

Graphically it looks pleasing and fluid, I did at times wish the ship "trails" were a bit less prominent as they did occasionally make it difficult to precisely see where the ship was during those crucial bullet hell moments.

Best of all, it controls brilliantly, with the sensitivity raised to max I can traverse the playing field on my iPad mini without lifting my thumb yet still manoeuvre with precision.

Great work mr Dunbar, alongside Beat Hazard, this is my favourite shmup on iOS.

Very cool

Makes you say "wow" a few times as you progress.
Slick and shiny and good to play.
And at just over 5Mb it can live on your phone indefinitely :-)
Only complaint is power ups - often you pick them up at the end of a wave, and they are on a timer most of which drains down before the next wave has appeared leaving you feeling disappointed.
Suggest letting the player trigger them like bombs.
