What’s New

Version 4.2.5

We're back, with some big stability improvements for Procreate 4.2. Everything should feel much smoother and generally more wonderful with the addition of these fixes:

- We've fixed issues with inserting and pasting images that stopped Undo from working, as well as causing crashes.
- Exiting Selection mode with an open selection shape will no longer cause crashes.
- Transform is now more coordinated, and can flip without crashing.
- And, uh, there were also crashes when exporting 30-second Time-lapse Recordings.
- Adonit styluses are not supported in Procreate on iPad Pro models, but they still shouldn't crash tho.
- Guess what happened when you reloaded a selection mask? It'd crash. Again.
- Drag and Drop an artwork from Gallery into another canvas, and it would create a broken file duplicate. Oops, we almost forgot: if you dropped it into the Layers menu, it would crash.
- Rotating the horizon line in a one-point Perspective Guide was busted. It didn't crash, but give us time.

We know all the crashing wasn't fun. The good news is that the crashes should be behind us now. Things should be nice and stable. Unless it crashes. But it shouldn't.

Fantastic app for a variety of styles.

This is a great app that I started using again after seeing a demonstration of Procreate’s perspective tools. The app has grown immensely from the early version that I used many years ago. As a professional artist working on comics, storyboards, commercial illustration and concept art I’ve found that I can use Procreate for almost all of my work which has left my cintiq companion gathering dust over the last few months.

This app is so intuitive to use it is pretty astonishing! The only function I would like to see added to it at this time would be the ability to either save multiple perspective set-ups so that I can easily switch between different set-ups for different panels when working on comic pages rather than having to rearrange the perspective guide. I think a lot of sequential artists would appreciate this as you could then work up an entire page’s worth of panels rather than have to work through panel by panel or rearrange the perspective guide.

Other than this suggestion, big thumbs up from me 👍👍👍

Procreate isn’t an art app. It’s an experience

Whenever I think about the tools that Procreate might lack I drift to other apps, and soon realise that they can’t compete with the one thing procreate nails. Once you invest some time learning the tools and where everything is, Procreate becomes an experience. It’s fun to use and honestly for the first time in a decade I can’t wait to get to drawing. A big part of that is due to their dedication to creating Procreate for IPad and iPad alone. They could do so many things to increase their revenue but time after time they choose what’s best for the app on iPad and the community they are fostering. If a company like that doesn’t deserve loyalty I don’t know who does.

I wish personally for a proper gradient tool, as I use lasso and gradients to colour in a comic book style but even though that’s my main method of colouring I’d rather give it up and learn a new way to keep using this app.
