Radio Alan: The Alan Partridge Player
By BBC Worldwide
Open iTunes to buy and download apps.
Have you ever wished you could listen to Alan Partridge’s radio show for real?
Now you can.
Radio Alan – the official Alan Partridge app takes audio clips of Alan broadcasting ‘live’ on the radio and plays them interspersed with songs from your iTunes library.
It creates the impression that you’re listening to Alan’s ACTUAL show live on North Norfolk Digital.
Back of the net!
As loyal Partridge fans will know, Alan’s radio segues often end with him introducing a song in his own inimitable style…
“Keep your clubs away from his young, it’s Seal”
The app will recognise if you have a (e.g.) Seal track in your iTunes library and play it in the right place. All the songs that Alan introduces are available to download from a “Partridge Playlist” within the app along with other Alan favourites.
As a bonus feature, Alan will analyse your iTunes library and let you know what he thinks of your music taste. You can improve your score by downloading Alan-approved songs from the Partridge Playlist.
The app comes preloaded with clips taken from Mid Morning Matters. Additional clips are available to download once you’ve heard all of these and further material will also be released in the future.
Alan clips bundled with the app include introductions for the following songs:
Wizzard - Any song
Def Leppard - Any song
The Simon Park Orchestra - Eye Level (Instrumental)
The Commodores - Three Times a Lady
Enya - Orinoco Flow
Jamiroquai - Any song
Alan clips in the in-app purchase pack include introductions for the following songs:

What's New in Version 1.0.2
Bug-fixes and refinements:
• Fixed rare crashes on launch (sorry to those affected!)
• Prioritised clips where Alan introduces songs
• Made in-app purchase immediately accessible
We have also investigated supporting iTunes Match. Unfortunately, Apple does not currently offer developers sufficient access to fully support iTunes Match in apps such as Radio Alan. As a workaround, we suggest ensuring the tracks you want to listen to are downloaded to your device. See http://radioalan.com/itunes-match for more details.
If you have delicate ribs, get medical insurance before listening!
With one almighty bound, Alan Partridge propels North Norfolk Digital to the very pinnacle of the 21st century hi-tech multi-media world!
If you have delicate ribs, get medical insurance before listening. It does sound like the 12 inch plate scam all over again, charging me to play my own music, but in fact Alan segues seamlessly around my own music better than I ever could, and he's found great stuff I didn't even know I had. Pity I was laughing too much to remember what it was.
The doctor says I'll be able to take the rib strapping off in a week or two.
I think you said that Alan?
Having downloaded the app I liked it first off and I am an Alan fan. As others say it's like having a local live radio station. However after a few hours use I had heard all the Alan pieces and was prompted to buy more, which I did, so that's circa £2. And presumably more will follow in time.
But you aren't told and you can't tell before purchase or after how many other Alans's you have bought? Also the app seems to repeat some Alan's frequently and some play infrequently? Without scrutiny I can't tell if it mixes first and second download purchases or is stuck playing only the more recent download or not. I don't really know what order random or other Alan's appear in.
I haven't downloaded Alan's music pack. It seems expensive when old tracks are available elsewhere more cheaply on compilation albums. I have heard Alan "introduce" only one track, ie Alison Moyet from music in my collection. But I don't hold much music.
How about including some short video clips instead of stills?
So good it literally worries me.
This is so good it makes redundant the idea of simply listening to music. Why would anyone prefer an option that doesn't include a slice of Alan hilarity in between tracks?! And because mid morning AP is so good, the most beautifully in diluted Alan yet, you never bore of it.
In fact so good is it, I have honestly found myself worrying about a time in the future where due to endless phone and software updates this will no longer be available and my life will be poorer..I never want a time Alan isn't on air!!!
