Realtime Trains provides live travel information for the British mainline passenger railway network, taking up-to-the-minute data from Network Rail (who own the track and operate the signalling) to make easy and accurate predictions about when your train will really arrive!
Realtime Trains currently only provides information about public passenger trains, equivalent to that shown in the 'basic' mode on our website. We are working making the detailed mode available in time.
Find your nearest station by location, or look up any mainline station in Great Britain by its name or three-letter code. See live departures or arrivals for any station, anywhere, anytime. See where your train has been, where it will be, and when.
- Unique to Realtime Trains: We show you if your train’s on the approach to the station, rolling into the platform, or already there and about to leave… so you know when to run!
- Find out which platform your train will leave from as soon as we know. You’ll see the booked platform to start, and when it turns bold, it’s been confirmed: the train is approaching, or already there! Beat the departures boards at the station, and grab that all-important seat!
- Set an alarm for your train’s departure or arrival. Never miss your stop again!
- Keep a list of your favourite trains, stations and routes for easy access. Or pin their timetables, so you can access them anywhere, even without a signal.
- Not sure where you are but want to get home? Find stations within a specific radius of your current location and see them on the map.
- No ads on our iPhone and iPad app. Ever.
Realtime Trains works across the British mainline passenger railway network in England, Scotland and Wales. At present, we don’t cover trams, light railways, metros (including most London Underground stations) or heritage railways off the mainline. We also don’t currently cover any services in Ireland. We make every effort to provide accurate predictions, but we cannot guarantee accuracy.
What's New in Version 1.0.2
We've added a couple of features and fixed a bug in this release.
We've added an iPad layout for those of you who walk around with tablets. Accessibility of the app is vastly improved as we now have VoiceOver support.
We've also removed the lucky dip when you pick a station from the pins on the nearest stations page.
The only rail app that gives you Euston platform numbers
At first glance this app looks like a lot of other rail apps that essentially just bolt onto the front of the National Rail API to get train information, where that falls down is that the National Rail feed is a consumer targeted feed with gaps, for example most of those won't give you platform numbers for London Euston because the National Rail feed blocks them - this app does as it is based on much more extensive and detailed rail feeds.
Alongside getting platform numbers for blocked stations like Euston and getting platform numbers quicker than other apps this one will tell you when a train isn't using it's normal platform, and when a train is delayed or cancelled can sometimes give you a reason why.
If you want to know how late a train was for a refund claim, this app can tell you as you can roll back to previous arrivals.
If you take a look at the app developers website you'll see there is more to come - the website has detailed information showing what times trains pass stations, timings of freight trains and all sorts of other stuff that train geeks will find fascinating.
Well worth paying for if you want to know what is really going on!
Clearly the best app on the store and more good things to come...
I have tried almost all the train apps on here and this is by far the best. It gives you platform information for all up coming trains so you can plan ahead without waiting for the last minute and having to run with everyone else who has been staring at the boards. Developer website says they are hiring and looking to develop app even further . So really looking forward too seeing what is in store. Keep up the great work guys.
Needs the detailed info
For the average traveller on national rail Train Operating Companies in England, Scotland and Wales this app stands up very well against the numerous similar ones available. If you fall into that category of user then I'd recommend that you buy it.
However, not being able to view the detailed info (including non-passenger movements and freight) as available via the website is a major minus for me, and it seems a significant number of others. Five stars without a doubt when that data becomes available through this app.
