Old School RCT - A few tiny issues, but with easy solutions.
I was a little bit apprehensive of buying this game due to the mixed reviews, so I felt I was taking a bit of a risk when I decided to go for it. I bought the game for a sort of nostalgia trip, and I was expecting pretty much old-style RCT for PC. The gameplay is exactly what I expected - I wanted to build a theme park, and roller coasters, and that’s what I got - with the addition of some new cool features, such as Coastercam, better graphics and the expansion packs. From reading other reviews, I was worried that the game controls would be set for PC gamers - and true, the tutorials do seem to have been written for people with a ‘right/left mouse click’ and with a tracking wheel. A quick google search, however, and there are keyboard alternatives.
Some of the icons are quite small during gameplay, but hovering over them gives a text bubble indicating what they are - a few minutes into the game, and this really wasn’t a problem any more. The zoom-in/out is quite sensitive, but if you use a smooth movement on the trackpad, it’s fine - again, it didn’t take me long to get used to it.
Overall, I got what I wanted - basic RCT. It’s fun, creative, if a bit easy a times - but very much in the same style as older RCTS. As far as I’m concerned there are a few glitches, but nothing that would have prevented me from buying this game.
On Par with PC, To many Users expecting more.
Recently downloaded Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, and to be honest I’m not sure on what the negative fuss is all about.
It is easily on par with RCT3 on the PC, even custom scenery (if you can find anny) installs the same way and so long as it is installed correctly works fine. Comments about the Mac’s running 100% cpu, yes this is true but the game did this on pc too, not heard any reports on any pc’s or mac’s getting damaged from this. Again comments regarding the touch pad are true it is very sensitive, one touch too much and the camera will zoom all the way in or out depending which way your swiping, and some movements that I could to with the camera on pc I havent yet found using the touch pad. Although the keyboard control work just fine or just use a mouse, as the issues with the touch pad are the same on windows laptops too.
All in all if you can live with the issues stated above, the game is very good indeed on the gameplay front, could probably come down a tad on the price.
Perfect couldn't ask for more..
After Purchasing an Macbook for personal use, but also for work; at first i was a little against installing games on my Macbook desbite it's performance ability. On a quiet day at work i can have a few hours with nothing to do, so i decided to look for a game which i can play but if i then don't play, then if a week later i start it up again i can just continue without feeling the need to start over to remember what's happened and where i'm at in a game.
This game is amazingly good fun, sometimes i'd end up so glued to my Macbook colleagues would end up reminding me that an issue needs looking into at work… a 12 hour shift flows by, and not just that i'm also looking at other games to download to change the scenery a little.
If your looking for a design, and ability to create your own theme park; you've found the perfect download right here! Yes it's £20 but for the amount of content and hours of fun you'll have, it will be the best £20 you've spent of your life.
