RSNO Astar is an app to help you introduce your baby to the wonderful world of music. Created by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the app features a selection of popular classical music for you and your baby to enjoy.

RSNO Astar is divided into three sections: Wake, Play and Nap.

Say “Hello little one!” with a selection of gentle music to rouse your little one from slumber and get their day off to a pleasant start.

Make playtime even more fun with music you can sing, clap and move around to.

When it’s time to relax and have a nap put on this beautiful quiet music to lull your little one into a peaceful sleep.

The RSNO Astar app was developed in partnership with Abertay University.

Poor functionality

Love the idea and my little one loves the music but the app is really poor and has been rushed out. If my phone goes to sleep so does the music, so I have to have it constantly near me to either open up my phone again or constantly tap the screen, not good when there's a squirmy baby in your hands. I have to have my ringer set to on even though my volume is separate. The app looks like it hasn't been tested as there are multiple bugs. Unfortunate as it does look good.

No sound, but looks great

For some reason I can’t get any of the tracks to play, which is a real shame as when you listen to music from their website the tracks are great. The app itself looks really good but my sound issue is a real shame.

Very poor music App

Looks like it hasn't been set up properly. Great idea to introduce babies to music and it really helps to calm my baby down. However, the App really is quite dreadful:
1. On the iPhone, the sound is controlled through the main ringer so if you are like me and have your phone on silent/vibrate you will get no sound. Ie this does not work like iTunes, Amazon music etc. It took me a while to work this out.
2. You have to remain in the relevant piece of music for it to continue playing. If you start to browse other parts of the App or want to use another App on your iPhone, it stops playing.
3. The biggest issue: the music stops when the phone automatically locks. Given this was an App developed for parents to play to their babies, it is quite poor that you have to keep an eye in the phone and keep stopping it from unlocking. I set a long auto-lock time but I shouldn’t have to!!

This App was probably developed with tax-payers money via the Scottish Government so it would have been nice if the developers had tried harder and the RSNO had thought through the spec better.
