What's New in Version 6.3.1
This latest update is all about shoes. No, really. It can be a struggle to know just when it’s time to replace those running sneakers. And it really doesn’t have to be, since there’s an app that knows all about your mileage (cough cough, us). Introducing Shoe Tracker!
How does it work?
-Head on over to settings, and select Shoe Tracking (under the Auto Pause setting in Activity Settings).
-We’ve got a whole bunch of running shoe brands and models pre-loaded in the dropdowns, so chances are yours are there. If you’re more of the hipster running shoe type and it isn’t, just select Other.
-Tell us how many miles you’d like to run in these shoes and we’ll remind you when you’ve hit that. Experts typically recommend replacing shoes after 300-500 miles.
-Whatever model you’ve selected in Settings will automatically be applied to your runs, and the miles will automatically add up. Magic!
-If you haven’t visited Settings yet, you’ll have an opportunity to add or change your shoe model in the post-activity screen after each run. That selection will just be applied to that run, not all future activities, though.
-Perhaps the best part, we’ll send you a push notification when you’ve hit your limit and it’s time to buy some new shoes! No more worn-out soles.
Best running app
Only recently started running about 3 months ago, downloaded this on a running a friend's recommendation and I would now definitely recommended it to others. It's very easy to use and you can see all your vital stats quickly and easily. I especially love the benefits of the runkeeper community where you can sign up to various challenges and win rewards. I've enjoyed using the free version so much that I've signed up to Runkeeper Go on an annual subscription. The GPS tracking is very accurate and being able to compare runs is great. It also works well with other health apps such a MyFitnessPal. Absolutely fantastic running app!
Great Free App
I use the free version and it's great for tracking my runs, estimating calories, and generally motivating me.
I must have recorded over 100 runs with it, but on about 5 or 6 it dramatically overestimates the distance - probably on a weak GPS - which throws out all the other calculations. Not a problem for something so good and so FREE, but that's the reason I haven't bought the upgrade. Fix this and you have a customer.
My suggestion would be to allow the user to choose whether to include data from weak GPS readings in the stats, that way you could still record your run, despite not agreeing that your first KM was run at 25KM/HR.
Developers please read
I like Runkeeper but there are some issues:
Apple Watch app closes to home screen when I'm on a run so you have to fiddle about with your watch when running to open the app again to get running stats.
GPS, distance and heart rate display readings on the Apple Watch aren't updated smoothly or as quickly as Apple workout app.
When completing a workout on Apple Watch there is no way to share the map of your run. Even though I had my phone with me.
The app paused on my Apple Watch unexpectedly during my workout when I was running with sleeves.
No data integration with Apple workouts, cannot pull workouts from health app or activity app.
To make the software worth using fix all of the above.
I suggest a 'route completion' button for map and gps blackouts or if the watch unexpectedly pauses. Most people run a circle so it would be easy to identify the route from start to finish should a gps blackout occur or unexpected pause ruin your run.
