Buy your tickets – as easy as 1-2-3.

Ruter’s mobile app lets you buy your ticket before you get on board. The ticket is valid on the Metro, buses, trams, ferries and trains in Oslo and Akershus.

Quick purchases options are based on your previous purchases and issue you a new ticket in just two easy stages.

You can buy a ticket just for yourself or for a group travelling together.

You can buy tickets in advance, and you can change the start time for your ticket.

For additional security, you can change the fare limit for which a password is required when buying tickets.

Your receipt will be sent via e-mail.

RuterBillett requests access permission to the following functions:

* Location/tracking:
Used in connection with ticket purchases so that RuterBillett can automatically suggest a ticket based on the zone in which you are located. You can still purchase a ticket even if the location function is turned off, but you must manually enter the stop or station from which the ticket will apply.

A push notification is used during ticket transfer in order to update a ticket's status. You can still purchase a ticket even if the notification function is turned off.

*Background updates:
Used at night when updating your control code and today's picture so that next day you always have the valid code and picture ready for a ticket inspection. You can still purchase a ticket even if the background update function is turned off.

*Use of mobile data:
Used when communicating with Ruter's systems during ticket purchases. If the app's access to mobile data is blocked, you can only buy a ticket if you have access to a wireless network (Wi-Fi). You must also have network access in order to display the control code and today's picture during a ticket inspection.

If you want to block access, you can do so from your phone on RuterBillett's "Settings" page.

Does the job (after some getting used to).

I found that my British MasterCard details were not accepted for the debit account. Fortunately my backup Visa account was accepted.
Having read the blurb I thought that single tickets were valid for the day of purchase but in fact they are only valid for an hour after being bought unless you change the default journey start time. If you have an advance ticket on the system you can activate it early so it pays to always specify 23:30 for your journey start and then activate when needed.
For a pair of journeys it pays to buy single tickets but for more during a day get a 24hr ticket.
Annoyingly you need to know the exact names of the stops at which your journey starts and ends. Your ticket is valid to any stop in a zone so this is an unnecessary complication for those not very familiar with Oslo and the surrounding area.

Can't use it..Doesn't validate cards properly

ONLY requests card details. IF you come from a country/region which requires full name + card details for payment validation, you will not be able to pay for your tickets through this app. Looks to be good in all other respects. Tried to use it, now feel like a fare-dodger. Not a comfortable ride!

Brilliant app

Easy to use and very convenient way of buying tickets in Oslo
