Quirky and informed, this GPS-enabled guide gives you what other travel apps can only claim to – the true insider’s guide to Scotland. Peter Irvine, Director of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay and a leading light in Scotland’s tourism industry, only includes places he thinks a visitor (or resident) should know about. Peter’s honest and entertaining recommendations will give you the inside track to discovering the real Scotland, whatever your budget.
A fully comprehensive and independent guide to Scotland that gives you only the very best recommendations and covers everything from:
• Stunning scenery to historical highlights
• Coastal walks to city strolls
• Local cafes to regional restaurants
• Wild camping to boutique hotels
You can search for places of interest on a map or from an A to Z indexed listing of places.
Each location has also been put into categories such as eating, drinking accommodation so you can refine your search.
For the first time, the best of Scotland, in an app.
Ratings and Reviews
The only guide the Scots use just got better
This is the bible for anyone touring Scotland. The book has been rewritten and republished every two years for the last two decades and it's gone from a slim back of the 501's pocket volume to a seriously authoritative guide, not just to the best places to eat, drink and sleep, but the best beaches, hills, gardens, galleries, castles and secret venues.
The app is cheap, intuitive, well indexed, and it works. Making it social would allow us to share our enthusiasms more easily but in the meantime it will keep you totally right wherever you find yourself in the home of bonny and braw.
Needs a bit more work
Love the Scotland the Best book. Have many editions and always forget to pack the book so the app seemed like the perfect solution. However, a few of the places we’ve tried to find have closed down. This is where an app can be much more useful than the book as it could update more often or have a button to report issues. Also I’d like to be able to click through to the websites listed to aid booking, checking opening hours etc. I hope you’ll consider these suggestions for the next version as an app is so much more versatile than the book when on the move!
