Awesome retro memories
This is a piece of gaming history, a Fantastic update of a well loved classic! A few background animations and effects missing from the xbox arcade version but works flawlessly with the classic graphics a simple touch away should you want to play it or just check out how the artwork used to look. The inclusion of the hints system is perfect for mobile gaming on the move so you can pick it up later and move on if you get stuck.
One word of warning to anyone who hasn't played these original point and click adventures is they are long games, not a quick fix like many other games offer! I can see how people who didn"t grow up with these games might find it hard to get into as things have moved on allot since the early 90's, but patients is a virtue and if your willing to overlook the overall lack of bells and whistles for a solid, classic tale you may find this is a great way to develop an appreciation for the genre and see what all the fuss was about.
Second one and arguably the best in the series 'MI2:le chucks revenge' is due out on the 7th of July which looks to do an even better job of breathing new life into these old SCUMM games and bringing them to a new audience. Can't wait!
Great way to introduce yourself to the Monkey Island series
Been tempted to have a go at this one for quite a while now, so today I finally caved in and bought the game for my iPod touch... And I am very happy that I did :D If, like me, you're new to the Monkey Island series, there's no better way to get yourself acquainted with it than this. The hand-drawn visuals are a delight here, and so is the voice acting which was provided for this special edition. Long time fans of the series will also be pleased to know that you get the option to switch back and forth between this new version of the game and the 1990 original edition, and that you can do so (literally) at any time during gameplay without pausing the action. Some people may be put off by the idea of dragging your cursor across the screen in this portable edition to highlight things as opposed to clicking them directly, but for what it is and how it works, it's fine for the platform. If like me, you're a newcomer to the Monkey Island games, there's no better way to get yourself acquainted with the series than this. And with two versions of the same game packed together for £1.99, you're bound to get your money's worth :D
Don't listen to the one star reviews, the game loads successfully with the 3.0 software. Also, the controls are very similar to previous games. More of a mix between Monkey Island 1 and 3 controls. Great game, almost identical to the original. I love these games and I'm looking forward to the making of further editions? Slight cons are the autosave option can be a hassle if you forget to save again in another save option and then accidentally press 'Play New Game' and your progress is deleted. Always remember to save it in the additional save boxes. Sometimes the directional use of the controls can be difficult when it comes to the corners of the screen. Also the obvious of the game using a fair amount of battery. Not as much as others but I'd reccommend Apple try to extend battery time in apps. But on the whole loved the game, brought back memories and loved the new graphics. Bring on the sequels!
