Description

Sky+ app is the best way to discover and manage all of your Sky TV and movies. You can connect directly to your Sky+HD box in-home to browse all of our content, set downloads and recordings and manage your planner. You can also set downloads, recordings and series links when you’re out and about so you never miss a thing.

Requirements:
To use the enhanced features you will need a compatible Sky+HD box and have your device and Sky+HD box connected to the same broadband network either with a wired or wireless connection. Please see the Help section of the app for more details.
In order to Record and Download programmes to your Sky+HD box you will need to register your Sky iD with the service at sky.com/remoterecord and simply follow the instructions.
Smart Series Link and photo viewing are only available to customers with a compatible Sky+HD box.
All recordings are FREE, however mobile network and/or Wi-Fi charges may apply.

If you are having problems connecting your app to your Sky+HD box, please make sure that your Sky+HD box and iPhone/iPad are on the same WiFi network. The repeated disconnections from the Sky box which then require me to ‘search for a box’ and then choose to ‘connect’ are a real pain in the backside! They take away all the pleasure of using the app!!! It would be really great if you could include in this app the facility to delete watched programmes from the Sky+ box. Currently I am unable to do this except when Actually in front of my box. I used to think Sky was an innovative technology company but their inability to address these simple problems that have been in existence for so long makes me wonder. This app promises so much - but delivers so little !!!

Update: June 2018
No apparent progress on any of the above but the App has now begun to regularly ‘lose’ all my recordings and scheduled programmes. It just reports there are none but makes no attempt to search! As there is no re-boot procedure available on the app the only solution is to delete, re-install, search and connect! It happens across iPads ranging from 2nd Generation iPad Air to latest iPad Pro. THE GRIEF IT CAUSES HAS BEGUN TO OUTWAY ANY BENEFIT FROM IT!!!!!

Disconnects when switching apps

I like this app, apart from 1 really annoying thing. If you switch to a different app for more than a few seconds then switch back it loses connection to the sky box. Then I have to “search for sky boxes” and “connect to this box” which it was just connected to a few seconds ago. If you force close the app and re-open instead of searching for sky boxes it connects fine, and it connects fine when first launching the app. Why can’t it reconnect to the same box it has always been connected to, and was connected to up until a few seconds ago, in the background without having to search for sky boxes and ask if you want to reconnect every time you switch apps?? I have had no problems with it disconnecting while the app is in the foreground.

Update: Dropped a star as this issue has been ongoing for years and still isn’t fixed. It’s a shame because otherwise it’s a good app, but this is REALLY annoying!

It disconnects from the box a lot. Even if you keep the screen awake. I’ve changed my box and my phone, and my broadband router over the time I’m using it and it still disconnects. Sometimes it freezes and just doesn’t actually send commands. Annoying if you are on fast forward. Never leave your sky box on a channel that stops broadcasting overnight, as the app will refuse to do anything at all to the box; you’ll have to go get the remote. Missing the colour buttons, so you can’t set Green on adverts that let you. No Sky button to cancel all open stuff and just return. The clash resolution is annoying. I just back up and let the box decide when to switch. My list of recordings is not that long, I am only using 10-15% space, but scrolling down the list crashes the app. This stuff happens everyday. Sky should just have offered an RF remote control that does not need line of sight.
