Watching Sky Go on your smartphone through a 3G/4G connection will use data and contribute to the monthly allowance set by your mobile network operator. What are the streaming requirements?
We recommend a minimum continuous bandwidth of 2MB per second to access high quality streams
What download restrictions are there?
Sky Go Extra users can download selected Sky Go content via WiFi. Two downloads per programme. Content is deleted 48 hours after viewing starts or no later than seven or 30 days after download, depending on content.
After updating to the latest version of Sky Go, you will need to open the app in ‘Online mode’ in UK/Ireland to activate the device. If you open the app in 'Offline mode', you will not be able to playback your downloads.

Bug fixes and stability improvements
Great idea, sloppy implementation
I really want this app to work better than it does. As a frequent commuter I love the idea that I can download shows the night before to watch on my travels. In practise though the app is so patchy. Main gripes include the fact that I often can't start the app while on the train because it tries to access the internet. If I have very little signal it persists and this can take minutes when all I want is to access my already downloaded content. The only way round this is to go into airplane mode but this then means I can't receive texts or calls while watching, maddening!
My second biggest gripe is over the 2 download limit. I understand why this limit is there but so often the app will fail while downloading for no apparent reason costing me one of my downloads. Again massively annoying when I often like to have a show on my iPad and iPhone at the same time so I can watch irrespective of where I am in my journey.
There is so much potential in this app and I'm happy to pay the extra monthly charge for 'Extra' as long as it works! Please resolve these issues.
Great in theory
Well the I cannot complain too much you do get to watch all the shows sky has on an iPad, not too shabby I think to myself, how naive I was back then!
So the content itself, cannot fault, been watching TV shows and movies, downloaded a couple for a long car drive and that all works great. However the app itself which you must use to access the content is horrendous, whoever sky paid to create this app needs to get their money back!
For example you want to search something within the app, oh would you look at that you are now stuck within the search option with no way of getting back to any other screen, which would not be too bad if the search menu actually worked...
When you do get into watching a program or film you find that it will not play consistently, keep getting cut off, the fact there are even adverts is horrendous, the whole point of watching box sets within the sky store is so that you don't have to put up with adverts, look at Netflix they can manage to stream a show without forcing ad breaks into the content and it's even worse when you consider the fact to even access sky go content you need to have a TV package with sky!!!
If the app actually worked, or was even half as good as the Netflix app I would have no hesitation in giving 4/5* review, the fact that the app itself not the content is atrocious stops me from doing that, 1 good decent update is all it takes, stop treating customers this poorly as this is how you loose customers
The real world
Of course, in the real world, wifi connections keep dropping. However, this is no excuse for the adverts to then keep reloading, so you're stuck in a Groundhog Day situation where the advert cycle keeps reloading and you have to start at advert 1 all over again.
Of course your developers know how to make the app cache so you don't get stuck in this cycle, but are prevented from doing so by idiot execs and bean counters. Who incidentally can't even tell the devs to at least put up different ads when this happens. Learn this fools. I WILL NOT buy a product from a company whose ad I am forced to watch repeatedly. Learn about your users and learn that you cannot apply last century marketing methods to 21st century audiences. We are not quite so gullible these days and have the tools to help us spend our cash as WE see fit.
As for the app. Yeah probably ok. Don't forget I have already paid for the content through my Sky subscription. The one episode of Critical I did watch, played seamlessly on a lousy internet connection.
Somehow, the owners of commercial TV stations fail to optimise the adverts for the web and they play jerkily, buffering all the time. If I were an advertiser with you, I would pull my product pretty quickly because you are not giving my potential customers a good watching experience. Optimise your adverts to the same degree that you optimise your TV shows and you might not turn so many people off! Duh!
