What's New in Version 5.3
Picture the moment: you're on the train to work watching a TV show you've downloaded. You get a text. Flick out of the app, check your text and flick back within 15 seconds. You'd assume that the app would recognise you and play back where you were? Nah. It starts again. Clearly checks credentials, that you're in the right country, slowly tries to load the home page (which takes ages because you're in a train and the signal is rubbish), you have to find the download again and start it, finding that it's jumped back 30 seconds. This happens again and again.
Quite often, that's if you're lucky. Quite often it just goes blank with sounds and you have to restart.
The search is rubbish. The downloads take ages and only over wifi (why? I've got a massive data plan. Let me choose. I'm an adult.)
It even restarted after a refresh once and said that I had to be connected to the net to restart. I was on a plane. For seven hours and had hoped to watch films on it.
Sort it out, Sky. Your competition is way ahead of you.
There is only one thing wrong with the app that I have found and that is when you come back to view another episode of a series you are watching it does not remember what you last viewed so you have to go through the whole rigmarole of searching for the series you want to watch, then from the results of that search you have to scroll down a long list including other titles, to get to the episode you want to watch next, that is if you can remember the episode number that you watched last, something which I sometimes have a problem with. Other apps of this sort have a section of last viewed programmes or a favourite function which would be helpful. Please try doing something like that on this app sky.
Crying out to be better
I'm sure everyone's idea of Sky Go is The same as mine. Your home Sky box and TV on the move. The basics are there and they are very good. Definition is acceptable, channel choice is OK etc.
The little things you miss like fast forward rather than jump to live after pausing. The times when it thinks you are not connected but you are, the buffering when your team is about to score. There are many more little inadequacies that let the app down.
This is as near as you'll get to having your Sky box and tv with you but it should be exactly like having it with you.(without lugging a 90" tv around!).
So good but crying out to be better.
