Download the Al Jazeera app instead
The adverts on this app are constant and it doesn't give you a large variety of what is going on in the world. The only good point is the navigation style and the news bulletin video, not enough to make up for how much of a hassle the adverts can be. You want the news, not things thrown in your face with advertising banners making it difficult to scroll or watch a minute of adverts with every video. Honestly, try the Al Jazeera English app, it is much better. Also in the opinion of a graphic design student, these adverts are more likely to annoy the public rather than reinforce brand presence or advertise a promotion. They are an absolutely terrible idea, sky news should be ashamed to use them. I assume they are accepting money for having them on the app, which is disgusting as their number one priority should be distributing the most accurate news in the most efficient way.
Firstly, The ads before and after watching a 10 second video are incredibly annoying. Moreover, the button to cancel watching the ad is so tiny that 9 times out of 10 I end up clicking on the ad itself! I know sky love this as they can show the companies advertising on the platform how high user engagement is and charge them 10x more then just for a viewing but it's a load of rubbish. ADVERTISERS - I ACCIDENTALLY CLICK ON YOUR ADS CONSTANTLY. I HAVE NEVER ONCE INTENDED TO.
Secondly, on a few occasions I have tried to watch a video only to be shown 2 ads in a row with no news clip!
I spend over £100 a month on my sky subscription, the least sky can do is supply me with news without bombarding me with ads! With over £1.2b of profit I'm sure the company will be just fine without using dodgy advertising techniques!
What Happened Sky?
This app was at one point my first port of call for keeping updated on news.
Recently however the app has become very disappointing and also at times frustrating to use, pushing me to other alternatives.
- Videos regularly uploaded on news stories that are only seconds long!
- Spelling mistakes in articles.
- Adverts that freeze/crash the app, or just leave you with a blank screen forcing you to reboot the app.
I think it's really time to look at giving this app the boot or redesigning from the ground up to keep up with user expectation and other rival news apps that are far better to use.
Sort it out Sky!!!!
