Sleep cycle is continuously rated as the best smart alarm clock and is the world’s most used intelligent alarm clock.
* Our patented technology monitors your sleep movements using sound or vibration analysis.
* Sleep Cycle then finds the optimal time to wake you up during a 30 minute window that ends at your set alarm time.
* Recommended placement: Near the bed or on the floor.
As you sleep you go through different phases, ranging from deep sleep to light sleep. The phase you are in when your alarm goes off is critical for how tired you will feel when you wake up.
Since you move differently in bed during the different phases, Sleep Cycle can use the microphone or accelerometer in your iPhone to monitor your movements and determine which sleep phase you are in.
Sleep Cycle wakes you when you are in your lightest sleep phase.

Accurate and Helpful
According to this app I've used it to track something like 80 nights sleep since I got it late last year. It's weirdly addictive and, for me at least, seemingly accurate. If I wake up in the night and happen to glance at the time on my clock (not even on my phone) and then wake up in the morning and check my sleep pattern, it picks it up 99% of the time.
It's strangely satisfying to wake up to a high percentage of sleep quality. On the day after the (only) night it reported 100% sleep quality I felt more energetic than ever showing some degree of accuracy.
As for the alarm, I started using it but didn't trust it compared to my regular alarm for college. There was no reason not to trust it - the times I used it it worked fine - just paranoia I guess. Now I use it just to track my sleep data and leave the alarm to the regular app.
One feature I do love is the heart rate option. You can turn it on through settings and by placing your finger over the camera of your phone it measures your resting heart rate immediately after waking up. I personally find this fascinating, however I'm not sure how accurate it is as it does seem to fluctuate (for example, it's reported both 49bpm and 96bpm before).
I would recommend backing-up your nights. I recently upgraded my phone and was able to re-download the app onto my new phone and restore all previous data.
All in all though, it's a great app that I would happily call an essential.
Probably the best alarm app out there, but it is so much more than that.
After using this app for almost 6 months I believe now, I have found mornings easier and nicer as it wakes me up at the best time for me between a 30 minute period I set it to. Except on a few occasions, I've woken up every day feeling so much more awake than I used to.
As I said though, it's much more than an alarm. It tracks sleep quality, my heart rate when I wake up, how different whether or even my preset options I can tick each night (such as whether I read or used electronics) has affected my sleep quality. I've interestingly found from this app that I sleep far better during rain, and larger moon patterns seem to make my quality of sleep go down. Reading has also shown to make me fall asleep quicker and electronics have decreased the quality.
This app also links to the life cycle app, which sadly doesn't have as many free features as this does, but I think they both work well together and all the information is interesting. I've especially liked seeing how when I have a healthier day and move more and don't use electronic devices before I go to sleep, I genuinely have much better nights.
I wouldn't want to turn back from this app now, waking up to 'Morning Mood' every morning and just the right time has become so engrained in my mind that if I got woken up badly I'd be completely disoriented.
Thank you for such an amazing app!
Fine for free and calm wake up
As a free app this is great. Set the timeframe to be woken in when you're most receptive and you tend to feel more refreshed than a normal alarm at a fixed time. However don't be surprised if you set say 30 min window to wake you at 7am and if goes off at 635 because you're 'awake'. As far as sleep 'quality' is concerned i wouldn't take much notice at scientific accuracy or worry its not being good enough. Sure if you have a rough night, drink alcohol the evening before the quality goes down, but roughly speaking you won't hit 90%-100% sleep quality unless you are sleeping for 9-10 hours. After hundreds days using this I notice a close similarity between hours slept and the percentage. So, 7 hours in bed? Expect about 70% sleep quality. Not so scientific really. If you're a light sleeper naturally you're not going to get high sleep quality ratings. So don't get hung up about that. As an alarm though it's great.
