Editors’ Notes

We love rediscovering hedgehog history with this enhanced edition of one of Sonic’s greatest adventures. This game sizzles with all the sprawling levels and blazing speed you remember from the ’90s, but this classic platformer is better than ever on the App Store. With crisp widescreen graphics, tight controls and awesome extra content, it’s just a blast.

A unique Sonic experience.

Once again, I don’t remember when I exactly downloaded this app but like the mobile ports of Sonic 1 & 2, this is is the best port of Sonic cd. However, one problem I and many others have faced during our playthroughs is the amount of abnoxious ads placed in every like 5 minutes and it generally makes the whole experience feel cheap, lazy and unprofessional. And it is a shame since Christian Whitehead put in lots of effort and care into these ports and with the annoying addition of the repetedive ads, it’s almost like SEGA doesn’t want you to play these fantastic recreations. But, I usually just ignore the ads, like I know that many people hate ads but when i have to deal with them, I just ignore them as I don’t want distract myself from the game. However, this game improves on almost everything. The camera can actually keep up with Sonic instead of surpassing him. Also, the audio sounds way better but then again, Christian used his signiture Retro Engine. Overall, while this game isn’t as well known or as popular as Sonic 1, 2, 3 and Knuckles, it will always be the most unique diversive 2d classic sonic game of all time.

Great game but has a couple of issues that can be easily fixed

I absolutely adored this game when I was a kid and I’ve always loved the game mechanics and story of sonic cd but now grown up I’ve noticed a couple of issues that can be fixed easily

1.) Add the drop dash, this would help out the game so much and it would make the game a lot faster and adding more replay value to old and new players

2.)Fix the debug mode, I’ve seen this for quite a bit and I’ve noticed it’s not been fixed as of this review. Myself and some other players noticed when doing all the requirements to unlock all the extras, debug mode was playable but it doesn’t work at all when trying it in a stage select or a new game, maybe try and add the way to do the debug mode from sonic 1 and 2 mobile.

That’s all the complaints I’ve had the game but overall I think that sonic cd is one of the greatest sonic games I’ve ever played, I’m just saying that it would be nice if these issues were noticed and fixed so that everyone who can’t get sonic on console or pc can still enjoy the game without these minor issues.
