How to select tracks/channels in Sound Studio 4.7.0 and later:

To select an individual track or set of tracks in Sound Studio, hold down the Command key and then click on the track(s) you'd like to select. By default, clicking once in the main waveform view automatically selects all tracks. Many users were previously unable to easily select and edit all tracks in Sound Studio, so we made this change to make this feature possible. You can read more about this feature in our user manual under Keyboard Shortcuts at

lost presets for timing? No change?

I've been using (happily) Sound Studio for many years, in various incarnations. Until this update, I have been able to have a number of preset timers, which have been extremely useful for capturing radio programmes [programs, if you're in the US]. This functionality now seems absent, and I can only do 'one-off' timer recordings.
I may be doing something wrong, but I can still do thus successfully on the previous version, on my laptop.
I have tried emailing the developer, but had no reply.
I like Sound Studio, but would appreciate this being fixed - or an explanation of what I am doing wrong.
(The online help document still regards the application as having this function.)
Update for 4.6.1
Sadly, I cannot see the return of the presets for timed recording. This is still my preferred sound file editing application, and I get round the problem by recording in version 4.2, and editing in the current version. A bit tedious, and I am constantly reminded to update in the app store…
I did contact Felt Tip last year, and they said that they might reinstate the facility if there were enough requests. I guess I am alone in this. The online user reference still says: "You can select a preset and then fine-tune the options for your particular setup and for the material you are recording. There are presets for timer recording and voice-activated recording."
Sigh. I've added a star, because despite this shortcoming, I still use it.

Excellent audio recorder and sound editor app

I have been using Sound Studio for a long time now; I remember buying Sound Studio 1 over a decade ago. I’m not a professional audio engineer but I do need to make high-quality voice and instrument recordings at regular intervals. In my experience, Sound Studio has always be a completely stable, focussed, budge audio recording app with many excellent sound processing features, particularly the compression and normalisation functions. This version, so far for me, has also been completely stable under El Capitan and I’d recommend it for anyone who wants an app to record sound and post-process it. The app could even function as an excellent education toll in learning sound processing techniques and their effects. I’m currently using it with a Focusrite USB-Audio interface and AKG condensor microphone.

Great for DJs

Nick Witness

Like so many other posts from people moving from PC (& Soundforge) to Mac, I was desperately looking for a replacement for Soundforge after learning I couldnt get it on the mac.
Lets be clear about what I need it to do for me; I am a DJ and wish to record an 80 min continuous mix and then place markers at the relevant track points, so that when its burnt to CD the listerner can skip from track to track.

I downloaded the trial version to test this, and in fact found it (dare I say) easier than sound forge, placing markers using cmd + M and then choosing edit "split by markers". I also followed the instructions on felt tip's website to download the Lame framework so I can save in Mp3 as well as all the other formats that come with this.

Within 2 uses of the trial, I downloaded the full app. Hope this is helpful to other DJs like me!

***I have something to add!! I have tried routing my sound system through the mac and through this app in order to record what Im playing live, and even with "Play through" switched on there was a delay in the sound in and out resulting in an inability to mix live using this set up - I have since found that using Logic Pro can do this without the delay. But still Sound Studio is useful to have for tracking up the mixes***
