Simple, addictive, FREE !!
Trying a lot of free apps can lead you into some hopelessly bad musical territory, and sometimes something simple can come into view that blows a breath of freshness through the mire of pretentiousness.
This app is devilishly simple and addictive.
Don't expect to be blown away by lush sounds or gorgeous interfaces. This is simply drawing lines and then listening as small dots bounce about on them. Changing the lines with a touch of the finger changes the created patterns, with the length of the line setting the pitch of the note played with each bounce of a tiny ball.
Great for putting a smile on your face, great for kids to play with, and great for driving you mother-in-law up the wall.
And it's free!!!,
Needs lots of work
The basic idea is superb - simple, and superb.
Two problems that are immediate is that there is awful clicking / clipping of the audio, and there's no support for CoreMidi, which is a real shame.
In terms of features, the ability to load and save is probably the most important one that comes with the 'Pro' version; the additional samples are not editable and show a lack of imagination, IMO.
Likewise, the UI controls for effecting gravity etc. are incredibly hard / impossible to fine-tune, and there are noticeable non-effects regarding gravity control and so on.
Likewise, the ability to actually use this for making good music (outside the genre of 'African-sounding marimba rhythms, which it does to a tee) is hampered by (1) the lack of semaphores/switches, or even the ability to activate/de-activate a line without moving it, and (2) the inability to select the actual note that a particular line should play.
Another shame is that there's no way to zoom in / pan or manage the actual play screen. Fine-adjusting lines is nearly impossible. Nevertheless, it's a very interesting and enjoyable App.
I really like this game and i have it on all my devices. I originally bought it on my iPod touch a few years back, but then when I got my iPad i also put it on that, and my iPhone. However, i am really disappointed, because even though i bout the extra pack with the different sounds on with my iPod, i have to pay again separately for it on my iPhone and iPad. I wouldn't mind as much but it is quite expensive, and i can't find any e store purchases button. Even though it says if you have already paid you won't be charged again, it is still coming up with the price every time i click. I have un-installed the game on all my devices.
