NASA's Spacecraft 3D is an augmented reality (AR) application that lets you learn about and interact with a variety of spacecraft that are used to explore our solar system, study Earth, and observe the universe. Using a printed AR Target and the camera on your mobile device, you can get up close with these robotic explorers, see how they move, and learn about the engineering feats used to expand our knowledge and understanding of space. Spacecraft 3D will be updated over time to include more of the amazing spacecraft that act as our robotic eyes on the earth, the solar system and beyond!
Please look forward to interacting with even more iconic NASA missions in future updates!
This app requires a camera.
Fixed two finger pan direction in Manual Mode.
Pegasus-XL spacecraft is now a downloadable model rather than an included model.

Doesn't work at all without camera
Installs fine on original iPad and launches OK, but when trying to actually view either of the craft an ambiguous message is thrown up, then the app crashes and drops back to the home screen.
Detection of a camera is trivial - why not give a meaningful message? Also, why not fall back to another navigation method if there is no camera? Maybe some sort of touch-screen based interface for spinning the object around and perhaps a multi-touch gesture for zooming? It could be called pinch-to-zoom. It might even catch on!
Works perfectly with my iPhone 4 and new generation iPad. Printed out the map and was totally blown away by the detail seen. Can't wait to look around other spacecraft.
This is a fantastic app. What fun to have 3D models you can explore on your own coffee table - and all for free! Thanks NASA for another brilliant app. I'll get nothing else done today till I've finished playing with this.
